The rundown

About Boost Mobile

Who they are

Boost Mobile is a carrier owned by EchoStar, the company formed from Dish Network and EchoStar. It offers no-contract prepaid accounts where you pay upfront, alongside a buy-now-pay-later option that works more like postpaid with device financing. Boost is sold online, through its own branded stores, and via independent dealers, with both new and bring-your-own devices supported.

Network & coverage

Boost is shifting to a hybrid model: it keeps its own 5G core but now delivers service primarily over AT&T’s nationwide network, with continued T-Mobile access as it retires its own radio sites. The transition is staged, and customers are expected to keep service throughout. One catch worth knowing: as a value brand, Boost data can be deprioritized behind each host network’s own postpaid customers during congestion.

How pricing works

Boost is no-contract prepaid, built around unlimited tiers that step up in premium data, hotspot, and international features. Taxes and fees are not included; they’re added on top. An autopay discount applies on the unlimited plans, and Boost markets a price-locked unlimited rate that stays fixed as long as you remain active on it. Financing a device through Boost shifts you to a buy-now-pay-later account.

Who it’s for

Boost suits people who want a low, predictable unlimited rate on AT&T-based coverage with no credit check on standard prepaid, and who like the option to finance a phone separately. It is less suited to anyone who wants taxes-included billing or guaranteed top-priority speeds during congestion, since value-brand traffic can yield to host postpaid customers. The alternatives below are worth a look if all-in pricing is your priority.

Tom’s Guide
Tom’s Guide 6.9

“Boost Mobile's performance is hampered by the fact that it relies on the network of parent company Sprint. But there are other positives to this network. The carrier has the best selection of phones among prepaid providers, strong customer service and some attractive plans, especially now that you can boost your data allotment by making regular on-time payments. All of those are enough to make it tie with MetroPCS as the best choice for prepaid carrier, despite the latter's vastly superior network performance.”

“With no contracts and generally decent pricing, Boost Mobile is a flexible virtual network provider running off the Sprint Network. With a focus on unlimited plans and some generous hotspot limits, Boost Mobile could be a good choice for data-heavy users, although data de-prioritisation may curb some of the appeal.”

“If the best cell phone providers are the ones that are most affordable, then Boost Mobile deserves recognition. Its cheap prices and welcome discounts give you superb value for money. You don't have the same degree of choice as other providers when it comes to picking your phone, and its coverage can be spotty in some areas thanks to its reliance on the Sprint network. If you just want cheap cell phone service, though, Boost could well be your best bet.”

“It may not have the best coverage compared to other prepaid phone service providers, but Boost Mobile offers a simplified experience that cuts the hassle of annual contracts. If you’re looking for a good deal on unlimited plans, or wants to avoid surprise data overage fees, Boost Mobile could be an option to consider.”

“Boost doesn't undercut Sprint's pricing by much, but it does beat them. The biggest advantage with Boost lies in the fact that it provides prepaid, no-contract plans. You won't find a significant difference in the monthly cost, but if you want to be on the Sprint network you won't have to jump through credit check hoops.”

Boost mobile has the absolute worst customer service out of any company I have done business with. They make it impossible to even contact them. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BOOST MOBILE!

Yes, you can temporarily suspend your daughter's Boost Mobile phone for a week or two without losing her phone number. You can contact Boost Mobile customer service and request a temporary suspension for her phone. After the suspension period, you can unsuspend the phone and continue using the same phone number.

Hi Billy. According to a Boost Mobile community manager: You can view the numbers that phone has texted as well as the date and times of texts sent by selecting that phone number and viewing Texts in the Service&Usage tab. Contents of text messages aren't stored or available. sourceHope that helps!
