Who they are
C Spire is a facilities-based regional carrier that owns and operates its own cellular network rather than reselling another’s. It’s the wireless brand of Cellular South, owned by the privately held Telapex, which also runs C Spire Fiber. C Spire offers both postpaid and prepaid plans, sold online, through its app, and at its own stores across the region, and is often called the largest privately held US wireless carrier.
Network & coverage
C Spire owns its towers and spectrum, with native coverage across Mississippi and into southwestern Alabama and western Tennessee, and a reputation for strong rural signal. Its 5G runs on low- and mid-band spectrum. One catch worth knowing: on its network everyone gets equal priority with no congestion slowdowns, but off its footprint you depend on roaming, primarily T-Mobile, where speeds can vary, and plans slow after a high-speed cap.
How pricing works
C Spire runs both postpaid and prepaid plans. Postpaid uses unlimited plans with per-line pricing that drops as you add lines; prepaid comes in monthly and multi-month options. Taxes treatment differs: postpaid is priced before taxes and carrier recovery fees, while prepaid is all-in with taxes included. Autopay earns a monthly discount, but the full amount requires a debit card or bank account, not a credit card. Plans are contract-free.
Who it’s for
C Spire suits people who live within its Southeastern footprint and want a local network owner with its own stores, equal network priority, and the option to bundle mobile with home fiber. It is less suited to people who spend most of their time outside its coverage and lean on roaming, or want a national footprint. The alternatives below are worth a look if nationwide native coverage is your priority.
