Apple releases iOS 27.2 with Siri AI upgrades, without the Health app overhaul
Key points
- Apple released iOS 27.2 to the public on October 26.
- Siri AI can now recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, such as a restaurant it recommended.
- Siri AI draws on more sources, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List.
- Siri AI adds support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. It is still not available in the EU or mainland China.
- A new Excluded Apps setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, replacing the earlier method of excluding apps one by one.
- FaceTime gets Dual Capture, and the Apple TV app gets Multi-view.
- Apple Music has a new logo, and Messages gets tappable suggestions based on context, such as tracking a package or adding a dinner invite to Calendar.
This is the first major update to iOS 27. It follows four developer beta cycles and one release candidate. Apple skipped iOS 27.1 for the public release. According to AppleInsider, Apple used 27.1 for the foldable iPhone Duo and kept that model separate from the main group at launch. MacRumors says 27.2 now puts the iPhone Duo and other iPhones on the same version of iOS.
Two features changed during testing. The Health app overhaul appeared in early betas of 27.2 and was pulled before release. Messages suggestions were available in the iOS 27 beta period, were removed before launch, and have now been added. The coverage does not say why either change was made. Macworld described the Siri AI changes as a surprise.
Reports differ slightly on Siri AI hardware. Macworld’s copy of Apple’s release notes lists all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. MacRumors says iPhone 15 Pro or later. These describe the same group of phones. The updates arrived across Apple’s platforms on the same day.
