iPhone 18e leak points to A20 chip and 60Hz screen
Key points
- The iPhone 18e is said to have a 6.12-inch OLED display using LTPS technology, which keeps the 60Hz refresh rate.
- It is said to use the A20 chip, the same chip expected in the standard iPhone 18.
- It is said to keep a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
- The front camera may be upgraded to 24 megapixels, but the leaker was less sure about this.
- The iPhone 16e and iPhone 17e use a 12-megapixel front camera and a 60Hz display of about 6.1 inches.
- The A20 is expected to use a 2nm process. The iPhone 17e's A19 chip uses 3nm.
- Notebookcheck says the phone could launch as early as the start of 2027.
Apple has not announced or confirmed anything about the iPhone 18e. All of this comes from one leaker, Digital Chat Station, in a post on Weibo. Notebookcheck calls the source exceptionally reliable and AppleInsider calls it generally reliable. AppleInsider rates the rumor “Possible”.
The leak follows earlier claims. MacRumors notes that a previous report also said the phone would keep a 60Hz LTPS display, while a separate report from Korea suggested a 120Hz LTPO display could reach the entry-level iPhone. The new leak backs the first claim.
The coverage disagrees on how big the upgrades are. Notebookcheck and MacRumors describe two upgrades, the chip and the front camera. AppleInsider says the chip is the only significant one, and adds that the 18e and standard iPhone 18 may end up closer together than the 17e and iPhone 17 were. The post does not describe the rear camera sensor or lens, so smaller hardware changes are still possible.
