“The Motorola DROID RAZR HD is a one of the most well-rounded packages on the market right now. The handset offers good performance and great battery life, tucked into a well-built, nice looking package. With Google pulling the strings at the company now, we are all but certain that the smartphone will extend the good software experience with timely OS updates too.”

“Ultimately, the Razr HD is full of compromises. It's clearly high-quality, but it's plagued by minor software faults. Performance is good 95% of the time, and that's good overall - until you remember that virtually all new midrange-or-better smartphones perform well 99% of the time. Signal reception is good, but the radio performance was unpredictable. The screen is a Pentile, and that's hard to ignore when you're aware of the shortcomings that entails. And the camera was mediocre at best, and non-functional at worst.”

“The DROID RAZR HD is more utilitarian in its appearance, but it is built like a tank with Gorilla Glass on the front, Kevlar backing on the rear, and nano coating inside and out to protect it from the occasional splash of water. Overall, the DROID RAZR HD is a nice update from last year’s model.”

“While you could argue that the Razr HD isn't a wow device, you can't really argue that it's bad, because it isn't. And honestly, we really like its design and feel. It might not be one of the new generation of giaganto-phones that are all the rage now, but it will suit that audience who want smaller devices, with plenty of scope.”

In Depth

Even though Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been on the market for quite some time now, manufacturers still seem to be stuck making phones with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Case in point: the Motorola RAZR HD which ships with version 4.0.4.

But while the pre-installed software does leave room for improvement, there’s no denying the fact that the Droid RAZR HD manages to wow as far as hardware is concerned. It has a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, 8MP camera, 16GB storage, 1GB RAM, and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It’s quite impressive when it comes to wireless features as well, with support for LTE, EV-DO, and HSPA+ data. And it doesn’t hurt that it comes in a metallic casing that weighs less than 150 grams and measures only 8mm thick.

With the Droid RAZR HD, Moto went with what was good with the original Droid RAZR and added improvements all around, from the screen to the software to the wireless features. In other words, you get the same solid slab of metal, glass, and plastic to enjoy messing around with the Android operating system.
