OnePlus 15R

Design

You’ll appreciate the OnePlus 15R’s durable design, crafted with aluminum and frosted glass, which keeps away pesky fingerprints while offering a premium feel in hand. This makes for a solid first impression as a sturdy device.

While the look is clean and modern, reviewers note a significant change: the beloved alert slider is missing, replaced by the less flexible Plus Key. This design decision might divide long-time fans seeking the familiar tactile experience.

Although the frosted back and minimalist design suit a contemporary aesthetic, the design seems less exciting compared to other standout phones, like the Pixel or the iPhone 17, which offer more distinctive camerawork and color variety.

Display(s)

The OnePlus 15R treats you to an expansive 6.83-inch display, enhancing your viewing experience with vivid colors and clear picture quality. You’ll appreciate the high 165Hz refresh rate. It makes gaming and scrolling through apps feel incredibly smooth.

Unfortunately, this phone uses LTPS technology. This limits how low the refresh rate can go, leading experts to express concerns over battery efficiency. “The LTPS panel… draws more power,” reviewers from Android Authority pointed out. Even so, the large screen stays bright outdoors, making it ideal for on-the-go use.

Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in the OnePlus 15R offers impressive power, supporting demanding apps and games with ease, making it a strong choice for mobile gaming enthusiasts.

The phone keeps its cool, avoiding the overheating issues faced by its sibling, the OnePlus 15, as reviewers have highlighted its ability to remain cooler under pressure.

With the chip’s efficiency, you’ll experience smooth animations and quick app launches, enhancing everyday tasks seamlessly.

Software & Storage

OxygenOS 16 on the OnePlus 15R has taken a turn towards a more cluttered experience. The UI feels slower due to heavy animations, and app navigation can lag.

One reviewer from Android Authority remarked on its resemblance to iOS, especially with features like the “Categories” in the app drawer and elements similar to Apple’s layout, describing it as feeling “cheap and lazy.”

The software aims to please but ultimately complicates tasks that should be straightforward.

Cameras

This device features a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide, but leaves out a dedicated telephoto lens, a decision that doesn’t sit well. “The lack of a telephoto lens is egregious enough to be a deal-breaker,” echoes Android Central.

While daylight performance captures vibrant shots, low-light conditions show the camera’s struggles, delivering blurry images.

Selfies benefit from a 32MP front camera but lack the detail expected at this price range, especially with minor movements.

Battery

The OnePlus 15R features the largest battery seen in any mainstream Android phone, measuring a massive 7,400mAh. It’s ideal for enthusiasts who enjoy long gaming sessions, streaming, or extensive browsing, without the constant annoyance of finding a charging point.

Several reviewers praised its exceptional endurance, allowing two full days of use even with a diverse range of apps and activities, as noted by Android Central: “The 15R’s battery life is ridiculously good.”

Unfortunately, the 15R doesn’t offer wireless charging, a surprising omission in this price range, especially after previous models failed to include it. This aspect has been lamented by many, leading to some disappointment.

The phone includes a 55W charger, limiting US and Canada residents to that speed despite the phone supporting faster 80W charging when paired with OnePlus’s proprietary charger. Even so, reviewers like Android Authority have highlighted the overall value: “55W wired charging is still good… not too shabby for a battery this large.”

Audio

The OnePlus 15R impresses with its audio qualities, particularly highlighted by Android Authority, which praises its “mid-range clarity” and balanced sound for both calls and media. The sound from the speakers remains well-rounded with a good balance of highs and lows, ensuring that you enjoy your favorite movies and games without missing a beat.

Efficient microphones make sure your voice comes through clearly during calls, enhancing conversations. Tom’s Guide also remarked on the audible precision, ensuring every dialogue and sound effect enhances your games and videos.

Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or on a call, the OnePlus 15R’s sound system ensures high-quality audio performance, turning everyday use into an enjoyable experience.

The Bottom Line

This phone offers excellent performance with its strong processor and handles gaming smoothly. The large battery life is standout, lasting over two days for most users. The durable design is complemented by water resistance, handling everyday use effectively. Unfortunately, missing a telephoto camera and wireless charging may disappoint those looking for a complete feature set. “The OnePlus 15R’s impressive battery makes it hard to beat for endurance,” noted one expert.
