Critic consensus
“Yes, the Pantech Laser is undoubtedly at the upper end of the feature phone spectrum on AT&T's lineup. But when you factor in all of the goodies it's packing beneath its shell, you'll easily figure out that it soars above other similar handsets like the Samsung Impression and LG Vu Plus. At $99.99 on-contract, it's also one of the most expensive Pantech non-smartphone handsets we've seen to date, but it's accompanied with a level of intrigue thanks to its commanding figure of being the thinnest handset on the market to sport a landscape keyboard. Although it might not prove itself in all categories, it nonetheless manages to transcend in being a messaging phone – plus it makes you look good while doing it.”
“The Laser is somewhat polarizing to me. Pantech has done a wonderful job at reducing the girth of what is a traditionally larger type of handset. The hardware isn't top-notch, but it is very good, and many will appreciate the small footprint it offers with the large, high-res screen. The keyboard is less than awesome, however, and that's a key feature on a phone such as this. It gets only some of the basics entirely right. Call quality was pretty good, despite varied signal performance, and battery life was above average. But the messaging features felt only half-realized, with email and social networking shortchanged with weak applications. AT&T's $5 monthly fee for email access on a device such as this is usury, plain and simple. The media features are an afterthought at best. The music features are weak and require users to make the effort to get an adapter or a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Even though the camera has a 3-megapixel sensor, image quality was below average. The browser was handicapped by a user interface that is difficult for fingers to interact with on a touch screen. What is the Laser good for? Well, it's a heck of a good text messaging phone, and since it is a QMD, I suppose AT&T and Pantech can say, Mission Accomplished! Would I recommend it? If texting is all you really want to do, then sure. If you're looking for anything more, then you'll need to see elsewhere.”

In Depth
If you are looking for a feature phone that is loaded with applications and has an ultra-thin design, look no further than the Pantech Laser. This is not a smartphone but it still packs a great punch in a very small size.
The Panatech Laser offers a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for fast text messaging. The keys are a comfortable size but are a bit mushy compared to other phones and need quite a bit of force to activate.
If you slide the keyboard in, you can navigate the phone using the touch screen on the front of the device. While the screen cannot measure up to a phone such as the iPhone, it holds its own as far as feature phones go. Those who are used to higher end capacitive touch screens like those on more expensive phones will likely be disappointed though. The Laser’s touch screen is not very responsive and lacks features such as multi-touch capabilities.
The operating system looks like a hybrid of Apple’s iOS and Google’s Andriod, but it works well. Navigating menus is easy and straightforward. Unfortunately while it looks like the phone comes with many pre-loaded applications, most of which ask you to pay for them when they are first opened up.
One of the biggest positives of the Pantech Laser is the excellent battery life. Even with moderate usage you can expect the phone to last for a couple of days before it needs a charge. However, using the data connection drops this number significantly so it is best that you turn the data connection off when you are not using it.
