Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Design

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra impresses with a high-strength aluminum frame and vegan leather back providing a formidable feel and unique texture. Reviewers noted its materials resist wear and enhance grip, making it both robust and stylish.

The sizable, circular camera notch on the back adds to its premium look but presents challenges. “The camera notch makes the top half of the phone significantly heavier,” notes TechRadar, highlighting handling difficulties particularly for those preferring one-handed use.

Despite these challenges, its IP68 certification and cutting-edge Xiaomi Shield Glass offer excellent durability, ensuring the phone withstands daily use while maintaining a refined appearance.

Display(s)

The phone showcases a dazzling 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with robust Xiaomi Shield Glass protection. This means you’ll enjoy vivid clarity whether indoors or outside in glaring sunlight, as the screen reaches a superb peak brightness of 3,000 nits, according to reviewers.

For anyone who loves watching videos or playing mobile games, the 120Hz refresh rate offers seamless and buttery-smooth scrolling, enhancing your visual experience.

Reviewers praise how you won’t miss a single detail in your apps or media. As one expert highlights, “the screen goes up to 3,000 nits of brightness, ensuring easy legibility even under the sun”.

Performance

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a high-performance chipset that gives you seamless app handling and rapid multitasking capabilities.

Numerous reviewers highlight its ability to manage demanding tasks without a hitch, with one expert noting, “The performance of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is one of its strengths, keeping apps running with very little downtime.”

This phone caters to gamers and power users with its superior handling of graphics-intensive applications, thanks to the impressive Qualcomm Adreno GPU.

Software & Storage

Xiaomi’s HyperOS enhances navigation with intuitive swipe gestures, simplifying the user interface for a clutter-free experience. Built on Android 14, the system runs seamlessly with improved transition effects.

A unique benefit of HyperOS is its integration of swipe gestures for accessing notifications and settings, similar to iOS devices, noted experts at TechRadar.

Despite a clean interface, HyperOS includes pre-installed apps that you may find unnecessary. You can remove some, but not all, which can be frustrating.

Overall, HyperOS offers a fluid and responsive experience, minimizing lag and keeping app usage pleasant and engaging.

Cameras

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra boasts a powerful camera setup, featuring a 1-inch Leica sensor for the main 50MP camera. It offers a variable aperture of f/1.63-f/4.0, ensuring stunning low-light shots and vibrant image quality.

Reviewers praise its dynamic range and ability to maintain detail in highlights and shadows, noting it’s “hands down the best camera phone ever” for its overall performance in various conditions (TechRadar). For smartphone users passionate about photography, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra sets a new benchmark.

Battery

You’ll appreciate the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s battery performance, with its 5,000mAh capacity offering up to two days of moderate use. Whether you’re gaming, browsing, or streaming, the battery holds up well under pressure.

Charging is a breeze, thanks to its 90W wired option, which reviewers noted can reach full power in around 33 to 40 minutes. This feature is perfect for those busy days when you need a quick top-up. Wireless charging supports up to 80W, giving you flexibility when you’re on the move.

Experts also appreciate the ‘Battery check-up’ feature, providing insights on improving battery life, making this phone a convenient choice for tech enthusiasts and casual users alike.

Audio

The phone features dual speakers that deliver decent sound quality for a smartphone, as noted by critics from Digital Camera World. During calls, you’ll experience excellent clarity in quiet environments, offering “natural voice transmission” and ensuring you can clearly hear your conversations, as highlighted by Notebookcheck.

For entertainment purposes like watching movies or gaming, these speakers allow for immersive audio, though at maximum volume some notes sound tinny as detailed by reviews from several tech sites.

The Bottom Line

If you prioritize photography over all else, you’ll appreciate its ability to rival standalone cameras. The array of Leica-powered lenses, including a notable variable aperture, ensures excellent image quality in various conditions. Handling drawbacks, such as unbalanced weight and a hefty price tag, can undermine everyday convenience.

Though camera-centric and appealing for photography enthusiasts, its use as a daily phone might be challenging. Consider if you’re ready to invest in superior photo performance at the expense of portability and ease of use.
