In Depth
The Archos Arnova 8b G2 is a relatively new take on the small form factor Android tablet. It comes equipped with an 8-inch 800×600 pixel resolution touchscreen display, 1GHz ARM Cortext A8 CPU, 512MB RAM, up to 8GB of internal storage, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It’s definitely not as powerful as many other tablets that are available on the market today, but it does have a few merits.
For one thing, it’s small and easy to carry around. Sure, it may seem a bit thick at 11mm thick, but its overall size should be handy to stow away into any kind of bag. The display features a capacitive touchscreen layer, which makes it easy to use with the default Android operating system. Android apps, whether the free or the paid variety, can be downloaded easily via Google Play with the use of a Wi-Fi connection.
Other hardware features of the 8b G2 include a built-in camera, microUSB port, and front-facing speakers. As you can see, it carries a fairly limited amount of both hardware and software features, so it’s not for everyone. As most reviewers note, it is under-powered and lacking in elements that make more expensive alternatives much better. But then that’s the thing, it’s not as expensive as many other tablets on the market. So this tablet could still be a nice choice for those who find that it fits not just their needs but also their budget.
