Critic consensus
“The Lenovo Tab A8 is an attractive choice for the budget-conscious buyer. Everyday performance is more than adequate and the battery life sufficient for a full day. The tablet is certainly not very exciting to look at, but the build quality is decent and the 8-inch IPS display with its vivid colors and good contrast is easy on the eyes. Sure, both the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and the Apple iPad Mini Retina will outperform the Tab A8 on nearly every level - but both carry a price tag to match. The Google Nexus 7 has a higher-resolution display and a class-leading brightness, but lacks the microSD card slot so many users wish for. Lenovo's own Yoga Tablet 8 sells for $20 more and offers the best battery life - but the unusual design might not appeal to everyone.”
“The Lenovo Tab 2 A8 is available for $130 for the 16 GB model, and currently, the only color option available is navy blue. That is an extremely impressive price tag, and there’s not a lot of devices at this price range of a similar caliber. So there you have it for this closer look at the Lenovo Tab 2 A8! Lenovo has undoubtedly built a very solid tablet that goes beyond what its very budget-friendly price point would suggest. While not without its flaws, with its slower processor, the availability of just 1 GB of RAM, mediocre display, and bad camera, the Tab 2 does deliver in the area it was meant to, and that is in the audio experience. You’ll be hard-pressed to find such an excellent speaker setup with even a twice as expensive tablet, and to be able to have that with a device that is priced at just $130 is amazing. If media-consumption is the primary objective, and you are on a budget, the Lenovo Tab 2 A8 should be under consideration.”
“The Lenovo A8 has a decent, 8-inch HD display and a nice, simple design. The extra inch of screen real estate makes the A8 more appealing, but its slow processor and mediocre performance detracts from that good first impression. If you are looking for a cheap tablet that can handle Web browsing, ebook reading, and other simple tasks, the A8’s $180 price is worth it. However, if you hate waiting for videos to load and need something zippy, you’d best look elsewhere.Although Lenovo is marketing the A8 as a great bargain for buyers with a tight budget, it doesn’t live up to expectations. You can buy a 2013 Nexus 7 from Google for only $50 more. Given the huge difference in quality between the two tablets, we recommend you pay the extra money.”
“At $179, the Lenovo A8 stacks up well against other 8-inch Android tablets, as it offers longer battery life and a richer and more accurate (albeit dimmer) screen. With any budget tablet, you have to temper your expectations, as the A8 had trouble on more demanding activities, such as 3D games. But if you're looking for an inexpensive and portable Android tablet, the Lenovo A8 is a solid option.”
