“The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 isn't terrible, but it just isn't nearly as good as some of the similarly priced or even cheaper alternatives. At the low end is the $199 Nexus 7, which features better specs in nearly every way at half the price.”

“The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 seems like a good tablet when you first open the box, but the moment you begin to hold and use it, the problems start stacking up. It’s entirely usable and functional, but for $300 to $400, you can do better. It’s current price is $311.20 on Lenovo.com, but standard is $400. Meanwhile, the Apple iPad 2 costs $400 now and beats the IdeaTab in every meaningful way, as do a lot of other Android tablets, if you want to get down to it. It’s sad, but this isn’t Lenovo’s best effort.”

“The $349 Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 offers a bright screen, long battery life, and very good sound, but it's too pricey compared with the Android competition. The ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 offers a quad-core CPU and a sharper 1280 x 800 display for just $30 more. If you don't mind a smaller screen, Google's new Nexus 7 tablet offers a higher-res display and appreciably more power, too. Overall, the IdeaTab S2109 is a decent tablet, but we wouldn't get it unless the price drops by at least $50.”

“You could do a lot worse than the Lenovo IdeaTab S2109. For $350, you get a comfortable, lightweight design, an IPS display with good viewing angles and a clean build of ICS. Sure, you're sacrificing Tegra 3 power and a higher-res panel, but those specs usually entail a steeper price anyway.”

In Depth

If you think that the Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 is just another Android tablet, well, you’re right. After all, it comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed, and runs on a mildly outdated yet still quite capable ARM Cortex A9 processor with 1GB of RAM. It comes in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB configurations, and can easily give you up to 10 hours of battery life per charge. With its 9.7-inch 1024×768 pixel resolution touchscreen display, it weighs in at just a little less than 600 grams. What’s most interesting about it perhaps is the fact that you can buy it in any color you like, as long as it’s black.

The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109’s other hardware features include a front-facing 1-megapixel camera, built-in 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS with A-GPS. As you can imagine, these features would go quite well with the built-in software and all of the aftermarket apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play store. You could download an e-book reader app and turn it into a dedicated digital book reading device. Or perhaps get some of the latest games and play them online with your friends (all four of them, sure). Maybe you could even use it as your main device for multimedia consumption, just to watch movies, play music, or see picture slideshows on. Web browsing works fine on the built-in browser, too.

Whichever direction you decide to go in with the Lenovo IdeaTab S2109, you’re sure to have a fun-filled digital time with the help of Google’s electronically-powered green little robots. You have to actually decide to buy the Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 first, though. Otherwise you might end up with a different model that has superior hardware and software on it instead.
