“As its name suggests, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move is truly the Paper Pro in miniature. That larger tablet felt great to use, but had the same shortcomings, and a similar higher-than-average price. If you've tried E Ink tablets before, but didn't like the idea of lugging around another tablet, there are plenty of reasons to try the Paper Pro Move. It really does unlock a whole new level of portability for E Ink tablets. At $450, it's just way more expensive than you're likely to want for a device of this size, and it's not quite as capable as you'd expect given the $3 a month subscription you have to pay to unlock all the Paper Pro Move's features. I think people will like this thing. Heck, I kind of love it, but it's undeniably a niche device.”

“If you like handwriting in any light on an infinite notebook, the Paper Pro Move has what it takes to join your on-the-go gadget team.”

“We gave the ReMarkable Paper Pro Move our Editor's Choice award for its well-crafted build, useful integrations, and totally unique form factor. The Move is a logical progression of the brand's lineup, taking what works with the larger-sized Paper Pro, and adding it to a smaller device. The Remarkable Paper Pro Move is also more affordable, starting at $449 when bundled with the Marker (ReMarkable's name for the stylus). You can also get unlimited cloud storage for $29/year, and that includes access to features like handwriting conversion and downloadable templates.”

“The ReMarkable Paper Pro Move is my new favorite digital notebook. It's the perfect size to grab and jot down random ideas or a complicated list, and you can still zoom out to draw larger sketches or switch to landscape mode.”

In Depth

Design

The Paper Pro Move stands out with its slim and portable design, weighing just 230g and boasting a 6.5mm thickness. Minimalist and environmentally-conscious, it uses 100% recycled aluminum.

This compact tablet fits comfortably in a jacket pocket, offering convenience for on-the-go note-taking. “It’s the perfect size to grab and jot down random ideas or a complicated list,” writes a reviewer from Wired.

The textured glass surface provides a satisfying paper-like feel, enhancing the writing experience, while magnetic docking secures the stylus for uninterrupted usage.

Display(s)

The display provides a true-to-life experience by using Canvas Color technology with E Ink Gallery 3. This makes writing and drawing feel natural.

It offers better contrast and sharper graphics compared to other e-readers. “The display itself is a wonder,” according to an Expert Reviews article, highlighting its clarity and color capabilities.

The 7.3-inch size makes it both portable and easy to use, especially for those who need a notepad on-the-go.

Performance

You will enjoy an engaging note-taking experience with the reMarkable Paper Pro Move, as “writing with the Marker on the Move’s textured glass screen really is very close to the experience of writing with pen on paper,” according to a reviewer at Expert Reviews.

Its performance excels in creating a focused, distraction-free environment for jotting down notes or sketching quick ideas. You may, however, notice a lag in gesture recognition, such as with page turns, which could impact efficiency.

Overall, this device stands out for delivering a specialized, tactile writing experience, although its limitations in other functions and its price tag might make you pause before investing.

Software & Storage

The ReMarkable Paper Pro Move offers a streamlined interface aimed at creating a focused writing experience. You won’t face digital distractions like email alerts or app notifications.

You’ll enjoy seamless connectivity with cloud services like Google Drive and Dropbox, allowing easy sharing of notes across devices.

Reviewers appreciate the smart integration of handwritten note search, acknowledging it as a “fantastic experience,” though they also note that “using it for longer-form writing might be cumbersome.”

Cameras

Don’t expect any cameras here; they’re absent by design, allowing the tablet to focus on its main strengths. “ReMarkable’s e-paper devices haven’t included cameras,” experts emphasize, underscoring the primary purpose of the tablet. Other tablets offer cameras for quick snaps, but here, the spotlight is on the writing experience. For a device like this, a superb writing feel eclipses the need for built-in photography features. It’s designed for capturing thoughts, not photos, so consider a separate device for your camera needs.

Battery

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move offers solid battery performance for everyday tasks, with several reviews suggesting you can expect around a week’s worth of charge if using it moderately with its internal light sparingly. Although reMarkable claims two weeks on a single charge, one reviewer noted, “In my enthusiastic testing, the battery life came nowhere close to ReMarkable’s claim”—implying that illumination and frequent use may reduce battery longevity. This empowers you with both portability and peace of mind, though charging will be more frequent if you utilize its color and lighting features extensively.

Audio

This tablet lacks built-in speakers or audio capabilities, a deliberate choice that keeps the focus squarely on note-taking. Reviewers note that the absence of audio reinforces the device’s mission: “It’s designed to be a distraction-free writing tool,” underscoring the primary purpose of the tablet. Other tablets offer audio for calls or media playback, but here, the spotlight is on distraction-free note-taking. For a device like this, a superb writing feel eclipses the need for built-in audio features. It’s designed for capturing thoughts, not conducting calls, so consider a separate device for your audio needs.

The Bottom Line

This tool is designed for those who value the experience of writing on paper, combining a tactile feel with a sleek, portable design.

Its small size makes it easy to carry, allowing you to integrate it into daily activities seamlessly. Writing feels natural, thanks to the textured display that mimics paper, providing a focused environment free from constant notifications.

“I love the simplicity the Paper Pro Move offers…it doesn’t do much, by design,” says TechRadar.

While the device’s price might be a hurdle, for those genuinely invested in the writing experience, it could be a worthwhile investment.
