“The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 is a trimmed-down version of last year's Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and Samsung is not exactly keeping it secret - we cannot think of a more fitting model name. If, on the other hand, you're scratching your head wondering was there anything to trim to begin with, you're not alone.Oh well, Samsung found a way. They got rid of the front-facing camera, put a 2MP unit around back, and replaced the chipset. No, not a Snapdragon 800, thank you very much. In many ways though, this is the same tablet - the Android version is the same, good-ol' TouchWiz on top (no Magazine UI obviously) and the size and ergonomics are also on par.One thing that might derail Samsung's plans is that the original Tab 3 is still available from various retailers and having undergone a few price cuts its closer to the Lite 7.0 than the new arrival would have liked. Then again, it may nudge the right people to re-think the price tag. Let's check out the full specs of the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite before we continue.”
“Offering a tablet for not much less than the best-selling budget slates (such as the Nexus 7, or even the standard Galaxy Tab 3) is not a safe bet, and it's one that Samsung lost. The G Tab 3 Lite has an atrocious TN display that mars half of the activities you want to do on it, plus we think it was a mistake to leave out the front camera. It's too bad, because the Tab 3 Lite does have other things going for it, like a responsive interface and lively battery...”

I have tested this tablet at the store. It has a very nice feel, it feels very sturdy. The size seems quite good and VERY portable. Text input is easy, keypad works well as letters are spaced out evenly, better than a lot of other smaller size tablets I have tried.
In Depth
The Galaxy Tab series has always been a contender in the high-end tablet market. With this device, Samsung is hoping to offer a budget-friendly tablet to round out their offerings while retaining the look and polish of their flagship series. Brian Johnson of GamerTabletz says, “In term of design, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 still inherits the same chubby look of its older sibling.” Unfortunately, the competition within this market is fierce and offers plenty of alternative options to consider.
Reviews on the device are average at best. However, this could depend on your ideal usage for the device. GSM Arena points out that, “It’s an extra browsing or reading screen in the living room, something to get your kid because you wouldn’t spoil them with an iPad or a Galaxy Pro.” They also mentioned, “In video playback, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 lasted for 9 hours, which will more than do on the commute or long flight.” If you are looking for a basic media consumption device, most reviews seem to point to the device working well.
When you start getting into the finer details, however, things are not as great as they might seem. GSM Arena notes, “most 1080p videos didn’t play, mainly due to the chipset limitations” and “The speaker on its back sounds very weak. It will do for watching YouTube in a quiet environment but not much in a louder setting.” Brian Johnson of Gamer Tabletz says, “If you’re looking for a great and powerful gaming tablet, then you might want to check out other tablets.”
Throughout many reviews, the same concern is mentioned–price. GSM Arena notes that, “There definitely are sharper screens in the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite’s price bracket.” Game Tabletz says, “In the price range there are many other great alternatives that are just better than this Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0.”
The problem does not appear to be with the tablet itself. It is that there is so much to choose from at a similar price point, including the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, that just have more to offer. Brian Linder of Liliputing sums it up the majority of reviews well when he states, “All told, if you can afford to spend a little more for the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, I’d recommend skipping the Lite model.”
