Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

Critic consensus
“Users who rate portability above all else have plenty of choice of 7 tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 should be top of their list if budget is of no issue. Super slim and lightweight, impressively built and good-looking, this is a tablet that knows portability doesn't begin or end with size.Sure, it's barely bigger than most seven-inchers and incredibly slim, but good use of space is not its only asset. The power-efficient and remarkably legible AMOLED screen, the solid battery backup, the expandable memory and the added voice call support complete a device that's hard to leave behind, even though tablets are not usually high on everyone's packing list.Ten-inchers belong on the couch and look good on your coffee table. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the outdoor type. And it's got the looks to match. That's what we meant when we called it the kind of tablet the iPads should be wary of.Now, Samsung must have no illusions about ending Apple's tablet domination any time soon. But they won't give up putting pressure on them either. Their tablet lineup is entering its second generation and they've got not one but two ten-inchers man-marking the new iPad.Their depth in the compact class is even more important. 7 tablets are a strictly Android affair (with a bit of BlackBerry for taste), so Samsung are leaving nothing to chance there. In fact, a couple of alternatives for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 come from within its own ranks.”
“We’ve said it before, but it won’t be long before Samsung has a Galaxy Tab in every possible size. More than any other tablet maker, the company is trying on all sizes with consumers to see what sticks. Until now, our favorite has been the Galaxy Tab 8.9, but with LTE and an AMOLED screen,”
“From strictly a design standpoint, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the tablet all other small-form tablets should aspire to. It's thin and light, with two cameras and expandable memory. As full-featured small tablets go, this is the high-water mark with its gorgeous AMOLED screen and Samsung Exynos CPU delivering fast game and UI navigation performance.”
“Using the Galaxy Tab 7.7 perfectly crystallizes how bad Honeycomb really is. Samsung built a solid, high-end tablet with great internals and a great display, but equipped it with an operating system that's just not up to the task. If and when it's upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich this will easily be one of the two or three most compelling Android tablets, because Samsung did virtually everything else right. Right now, though, it’s being held back considerably. Of course, the lack of good tablet apps for Android is still a huge problem, and so is the price: $499.99 plus a two-year contract is likely to be more expensive in the long run than a $629, contract-free Verizon iPad, and $699.99 without a contract is even harder to swallow for a device with only 16GB of internal storage. If you really want an Android tablet, you'll love the Galaxy Tab 7.7 (especially when it gets Android 4.0), but without a more stable OS it’s not the best tablet out there in any conversation — ICS-equipped devices like the Transformer Prime are a smarter buy, and none of them compare to the iPad.”

In Depth
You may have looked at Samsung’s tablet lineup before and thought to yourself that the Korean company really needs to take a break, what with its production of one Galaxy-branded tab offering after another. But when you first get a chance to take a hard look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi, your attitude might change. It boasts a great list of hardware specs and excellent pre-installed software.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi, as its name suggests, features a 7.7-inch screen and comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. The display itself is a sight for sore eyes, with AMOLED technology and a native resolution of 1280×800 pixels on the screen. It also comes with a whole host of different hardware sensors and wireless antennas, as well as ample on-deviceRAM at 1GB and 16GB of internal storage.
It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb by default with a 1.4GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, and an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich—and possibly even Jelly Bean—is in the cards. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI makes the default operating system a pleasure to use with its UI customizations.
What about battery life? It’s good. Good enough, thanks to its relatively small screen, for up to 10 hours of use or more per charge.
The only problem that anyone might have with this particular tablet from Samsung is the price. While it definitely gives great value all around, many seem to agree that Samsung is simply asking too much for it, especially when you take a look around and see competing tablets that offer more bang for your buck. Unless the price is adjusted to be more wallet-friendly, Samsung is going to miss out on an opportunity to draw attention to an otherwise stellar product.
