“Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 ticks all the right checkboxes to be a great tablet. It has a top-notch screen, a super fast chipset and plenty of exclusive software tricks to survive in the increasingly crowded market. More impressively, it has no major gaps in its armory, just like you'd expect from a flagship device.Sure, it's expensive, but until its impressive user experience is matched by a cheaper slate we can't really call it overpriced. It's a gadget to be looking up to and a companion, whose presence will be enjoyed by everyone.”

“Samsung has been following the strategy of launching many different models on the market to satisfy every customer for some time. This time, it was Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 inch model that underwent our extensive tests. The Wi-Fi version enters the ring with a Snapdragon 800, and seriously threatens the iPad Mini Retina. The extreme resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels alongside the screen's very high brightness make the model to the immediate contender of Apple's 7.9 inch tablet. The smaller version of the previously reviewed Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 gives a good show. The performance is impressive because it has enough power to easily deal with all applications from the Android World. In terms of screen quality, the Tab Pro 8.4 reaps in a very good ranking. It is marginally brighter than the iPad Mini Retina, has a higher resolution and a very homogeneous illumination. A plus point is also awarded for the moderate temperature development because we never ascertained an uncomfortable temperature.”

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 makes a good case for spending more to get more. Its top-of-the-line specs and zippy performance come in a package that will appease the aesthetically inclined and the business professional alike. Its $400 starting price is an expensive far cry from what you'd pay for some small slates, like the Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, but, in the face of this budget-tablet flood, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 offers more than those models -- a lot more. The Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display costs the same amount, but if you're more interested in a high-end slate with Android appeal, the Samsung Galaxy Pro Tab 8.4 ranks high in the niche of premium small tablets.”

“With a starting price of $400 (in the US), the Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 is among the most expensive tablets of this caliber. It costs as much as a 2-gen iPad mini and $100 more than an LG G Pad 8.3, for that matter. But is this rather steep price tag justified? You betcha!Samsung's smallest PRO tablet offers more bang for the buck than any other slate of around this size. It is slim, light, and highly portable, but also very powerful and rich in features. And when we throw its gorgeous, high-res display and capable camera into account, we end up with a slate we'd totally recommend to anyone who doesn't mind its cost. Design-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 leaves room for improvement. It isn't a badly-made tablet by any means, but we are still wondering when we might finally see a Samsung slate made of something more premium than plastic. To those who like the looks and feel of fancier build materials, we'd recommend giving the equally-priced iPad mini with Retina Display a try.”

In Depth

The Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 is the smallest of the TabPRO tablets measuring in at 8.4 inches and weighing a light 331 grams for the WiFi only version.

Like the other tablets in this family, the TabPRO 8.4’s display offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600. Due to its smaller screen it actually provides a pixel density of 359ppi, which is higher than both of the larger TabPRO models and even exceeds the pixel count of the iPad mini with Retina Display. Experts agree that the increased pixel density makes the display incredibly crisp including V3 who says that the display also offers decent viewing angles and excellent brightness and color balance.

The TabPRO 8.4 includes 2GB of RAM, 2.3GHz quad-core processor for both the WiFi and LTE model and up to 32GB of internal storage expanded to 64GB thanks to a microSD slot. Due to its smaller size, the tablet does come with a smaller 4,800mAh battery; however Samsung touts the battery life as “above average” lasting more than 10 hours. There’s a rear-facing 8MP camera with auto-focus features and a 2MP forward-facing camera for video conferencing.

The TabPRO 8.4 offers the new Magazine UI, a user interface which allows users to fully customize their homescreen with live tiles. It also offers Multi-Window. Unfortunately, most reviewers found this feature not as useful on the smaller screen. In addition, PCPro found that the performance suffered due to the amount of data flowing into the live tiles noting a significant amount of “judder” when flicking between homescreens and some unresponsive tiles. Despite a couple performance issues however, critics were overall impressed by the device’s speed.

For the most part, reviewer impressions of the TabPRO 8.4 were generally positive. Infinitely More states that “all in all, it is a decent and powerful device.”
