Who they are
Mint Mobile is a low-cost prepaid brand owned by T-Mobile, which acquired Mint’s parent company while keeping it as a separate budget label. It runs as multi-month prepaid service, sold almost entirely online through Mint’s site and app, with starter kits available at a few retailers but no company-run stores. Account setup and management are handled digitally.
Network & coverage
Mint runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide network rather than its own, so coverage and 5G availability track T-Mobile’s maps, with strong performance in metro areas and along major corridors and weaker reach in some rural regions. All plans include T-Mobile 5G where available, with no surcharge. One catch worth knowing: during congestion, Mint data can slow behind T-Mobile’s own postpaid customers.
How pricing works
Mint is prepaid with no contract and no early-termination fee, but it works differently from monthly prepaid: you pay for a block of months upfront, and the per-month rate is lowest on the longest term. Taxes and fees are not included; they are added at checkout. There is no autopay discount, since term length is the main lever, and no formal price-lock beyond the term you have already paid for.
Who it’s for
Mint suits people who want a low monthly rate on T-Mobile coverage and are comfortable paying several months in advance and managing everything in an app. It is less suited to anyone who wants in-person store support, taxes-included billing, or the flexibility to leave mid-term, since prepaid blocks generally aren’t refunded. The alternatives below are worth a look if pay-as-you-go monthly billing is your priority.
Carl, thank you for your feedback. I did as you stated and called at&t and they had me get online and fill out a request for unlocking and a couple hours later my request was approved and I had my Iphone 6s Plus working with Mint Mobile Service.
