Key points
- Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, 2026, alongside iOS 27 and other operating system updates
- The update includes 204 security vulnerability fixes, the highest number ever for a macOS release
- macOS 27 introduces Siri AI with conversational responses, personal context, and cross-app actions
- A dedicated Siri app stores previous conversations, and Visual Intelligence lets users ask Siri about onscreen content via screenshots
- Apple also released macOS Tahoe 26.7 and macOS Sequoia 15.8 on the same day
Apple announced the September 14 release date on September 9, then shipped macOS 27 Golden Gate on time. It also released updates for two older macOS versions, Tahoe 26.7 and Sequoia 15.8.
The number of security fixes jumped: iOS 26.0 had 35 fixes, iOS 26.5 had 43, and iOS 26.6.7 had 79. The jump is linked to AI coding agents, which can scan huge amounts of code and find flaws people miss. Apple took part in Project Glasswing, a project with Anthropic that gave security researchers early access to advanced AI models to find flaws.
