iOS 27 code reveals Apple built Siri to work with or be replaced by third-party AI models
Key points
- Code in iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate betas shows Apple designed Siri to integrate with third-party AI models like Claude and ChatGPT.
- A "Model Delegation" mechanism allows third-party models to act as Siri extensions, handling requests and handing back system tasks to Siri when needed.
- A second protocol in "Model Manager Services" appears to allow Apple's server-side Siri model to be completely replaced by another model such as GPT-5.6.
- Developer "pdfu" demonstrated Claude creating reminders through Siri and generating CSV files that Siri cannot handle natively.
- The frameworks are currently private and not user-accessible in the beta builds.
The code was found by the developer “pdfu,” who also showed it working in a video. In one setup, outside models like Claude appear as Siri extensions. The user picks Claude from a menu, asks Siri to pass a request to Claude, and Claude handles it, handing system tasks like setting reminders back to Siri. In another example, Claude made a CSV file, something Siri cannot do on its own.
A second setup goes further. A setting in “Model Manager Services” appears to let Apple’s whole server-side Siri model be swapped for another, such as GPT-5.6, which would receive Siri’s planner prompts and tool definitions directly. These frameworks are private in the current betas and not open to users.
