Samsung’s next book-style foldable may get its hidden inner camera back. A tipster on X says the Galaxy Z Fold 9 will use an under-display camera, one placed beneath the screen so no hole shows on the inner display. GSMArena and Android Headlines both report the claim. Samsung has not announced the phone or confirmed any of this.
The camera would be a return, not a first. Samsung used an under-display camera on the inner screen of its Fold line for four generations, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold3 in 2021 and ending with the Galaxy Z Fold6. The Galaxy Z Fold7 switched to a regular punch-hole camera, a small visible hole cut into the screen. This year’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the wider Galaxy Z Fold8 kept the punch hole.
The tipster says the Fold 9 will also get “major internal changes” while its thickness and overall design change very little. No specifics on those internal changes have been given. Android Police is also covering new details on the reported cameras for both the Galaxy Z Fold 9 and a Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra. Since this is a tip and not a Samsung announcement, the final phone could differ.
