Samsung Unveils Flex Titanium Display Tech to Reduce Foldable Creases
Key points
- The display integrates a new titanium-alloy film that measures only one-third the thickness of a human hair but is reportedly 20 times stiffer than previous polymer films.
- The underlying titanium plate features micro-patterned holes specifically in the folding section to balance high durability with seamless bending.
- By removing air gaps and creating a tighter bond between the OLED panel and the titanium support layers, the new architecture provides a flatter, more uniform surface with a significantly less visible crease.
- Samsung combined its high-resolution display architecture with new organic materials that are designed to lower overall device power consumption.
- The Flex Titanium technology is confirmed to debut in the next generation of Galaxy foldables during the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
Samsung Electronics has officially introduced “Flex Titanium,” a redesigned display technology aimed at enhancing durability and minimizing the visible screen crease on its next generation of Galaxy foldable devices. Built on seven generations of foldable engineering expertise, the new screen architecture promises to deliver a thinner, stronger, and more resilient viewing experience.
The structural redesign shifts away from traditional polymers by integrating two specialized titanium-based layers within the display module: an ultra-thin titanium-alloy film and a supportive titanium plate. According to Samsung Display executives, the technology utilizes sophisticated micro-patterned holes along the folding section of the plate to ensure the screen remains highly flexible while maintaining robust durability against external shocks and continuous folding.
In addition to physical structural improvements, Samsung incorporated new organic materials designed to maximize the display’s power efficiency. This development directly addresses long-standing consumer feedback regarding foldable screen longevity, battery consumption, and the distracting central crease. Consumers and the mobile industry can expect to see the Flex Titanium technology fully demonstrated when Samsung officially unveils its upcoming foldable smartphone lineup at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 22.
