Critic consensus
“Although the Liquid S2 could not take the throne, this Phablet is a success. The bright display with strong contrast is instantly amiable. The brightness sensor could use some work though. The camera captures above-average pictures. The Ultra-HD function is a nice feature, but few users will find it immensely useful. Thankfully, there are many features offered in FullHD as well. Thanks to the MicroSD slot, even if the user gets short on the space available internally, s/he can upgrade their storage by up to 128 GB.”
“The Acer Liquid S2 is a solid, feature-packed phone that is a little cheaper than some of the competition. Strong core specs and plenty of features make it a sound buy. But a slight lack of finesse in part means it’s not a remarkable device. There are definitely benefits to a phone this large, in particular for gaming, browsing and watching videos. But for many of you the practicality cost may be too great. There’s more than a fistful of phone to contend with here: make sure you’re prepared for it. The Acer Liquid S2 is a great big phone with lots of features. However, its large size means it’s a little tricky to handle at times and some elements lack a little care and attention.”
“Acer’s first crack at a premium phablet comes with good intentions, delivering great specs and results in some areas but left wanting in others. The S2 seeks to separate itself from its cheaper sibling, the Liquid S1, by packing all the high-end specs you could ask for – including a 6in Full HD screen, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage with support for up to 128GB expansion via microSD and a 13MP camera with the ability to film 4K video. This mixed bag means it struggles to create the impact it will need to succeed against stiff competition.”
“The Acer Liquid S2 undoubtedly is the firm's most interesting smartphone to date and manages to challenge the Galaxy Note 3 in screen quality and processing power. Although the handset ships with an older version of Google's Android mobile operating system, we found Acer's largely vanilla user interface pleasant to use, perhaps more so than the overbearing custom user interfaces often found on other similarly specified handsets. However, we thought the phone was a little let down by its battery, and the large 6in phablet design is unlikely to be to everyone's taste - especially those with small hands.”
