“The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 is a $180 phone that looks and handles like a $350 phone. Under any other circumstances, I'd give it my wholehearted recommendation. The problem is that the same-price Moto G offers a customizable design via MotoMaker, IPX7 water resistance, better battery life, and a mostly stock Android experience. There are also custom features like Moto Display, which lets you interact with notifications when your screen is off, and Moto Assist, which can recognize when you're asleep or in a meeting and alter notifications accordingly. Then there's also the promise of reliable Android updates. If you like the stylish look of the Idol 3 and want a phone with very good-sounding speakers, it's an excellent choice. But set side by side, the Moto G has a bit more going for it than the Idol 3 4.7.”

“We can’t stress enough about its pricing! At $179.99 outright, the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 4.7-inch offers good value in such a compact package – more so when there are so many qualities we like about it. The svelte construction and its compact size are perhaps the biggest standouts. Alcatel helped established this new movement of “value” phones on a budget with the introduction of its 5.5-inch model earlier in the year. This 4.7-inch version follows in a similar manner, too. Right now, its biggest rival is arguably the 2015 Moto G, another phone that’s priced at $180. Unless you really need that water-resistant construction, the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 4.7-inch makes for one compelling argument with its slimmer package, bright screen, and hard-to-beat cost.”

“You'd never know at a glance that the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 4.7 costs just $180. The handsome, solid device offers a bright display, loud speakers and capable cameras that will please multimedia gluttons. Too bad the phone doesn't last long on a charge. Some may also prefer a more stock Android experience compared to Alcatel's cutesy skin.Overall, we prefer the Moto G because it offers faster performance and longer battery life. But if you want your unlocked phones to be as light in your hand as they are on your wallet, the Idol 3 4.7 is worth a look.”

“Now that I have finished using the IDOL 3 4.7 as my daily driver, I have to ask myself if I am going to miss it when I switch back to my Nexus 6. The answer is yes, but not all of it. I will not miss the camera, and I will be happy to return to my 2K screen. But there are definitely parts of the IDOL 3 4.7 I am going to miss. Most notably, the Reversible UI feature which I enjoy so much. Also, just the fluidity and smoothness of performance.Should you go out and buy the IDOL 3 4.7? It honestly depends on your budget. If you are set on not spending over $200 on a phone, I would say definitely. The IDOL 3 4.7 is a fantastic phone with great performance and battery life, and hopefully there will be a software update to improve the camera. If you are willing to stretch your budget a little more, I would advise you look in the higher range. Perhaps even at this phone’s larger 5.5″ brother, which is an amazing phone for the price.”
