Critic consensus
“If you can overlook the poor battery life it exhibits, you'll find the T-Mobile myTouch 4G to offer a high-level of performance that will appease almost anyone in the market for a smartphone. Just about everything radiates a polished feel, and fittingly, it can be regarded as one of the best handsets available on T-Mobile's lineup. And to make it stand out more from the other devices it's trying to compete with, the availability of HSPA+ connectivity and a front facing camera will undoubtedly add to its overall appeal. So when it's priced at $199.99 on-contract, you can't go wrong with a quality product from HTC's camp as it supplements T-Mobile's high-end Android lineup. It's going to be a tough call for customers shopping around for a smartphone, especially when you've got the Samsung Vibrant excelling in battery life and the T-Mobile G2 offering the convenience of a keyboard.”
“In T-Mobile's attempt to make a consumer-friendly phone, we'd argue they've driven in the other direction. Luckily, many of our qualms with the phone can be chalked up to personal preference, and a power user could potentially finagle a stock Android ROM onto here, so we'd encourage any prospective buyers to check out the phone for themselves before we fend them off entirely. For the rest of us, we'll keep dreaming of the Nexus Two that this phone most assuredly isn't.”
“Here’s the bottom line: the myTouch 4G is a great phone. It has a great build and feel, workable UI enhancements, and some awesome convenience features. Are the data speeds and video-calling capabilities – two of the features T-Mobile is marketing the hardest – the most amazing we’ve ever seen? Not really, but your mileage may vary. At the end of the day if you’re a user looking for a smartphone to keep you organized on a network with affordable voice and data plan offerings we can highly recommend the myTouch 4G. If you’re a gadget nerd looking to replace your HTC EVO, keep on looking.”
“The T-Mobile myTouch 4G is T-Mobile's second HSPA+ smartphone, following the T-Mobile G2. There are arguments to be made that T-Mobile's HSPA+ network isn't 4G, but there's no disputing that it's fast. So is the myTouch 4G, it's powered by one of Qualcomm's latest 1GHz Snapdragon processors. From its premium industrial design down to its voice quality and battery life, the myTouch 4G was a pleasure to use during my tests.”
