Critic consensus
“The Mate RS looks smart with its sturdy and durable case. Likewise, performance is on par with other Kirin 970-powered devices. With that said, the device has too many weaknesses for its price. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS cannot meet the lofty expectations that its absurd pricing sets.”
“We love the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS for its boldness. If this was a track race, this phone would be the odds-on favourite to win. On the day, however, it'd be the one to crash out in an explosive, expensive and memorable collision. Because this phone is a wonderful glimpse of what will be, wrapped into the body of what isn't yet quite there.”
“As a combination of the best aspects of the Mate 10 Pro and P20 Pro, the Mate RS is largely a success. And its design is nicer than either of them. You get a sublime screen, great battery life, an excellent camera – provided you’re sensible with its AI assistance – and huge storage options.”
“The Mate RS comes with more optional storage than any phone before it, a new cooling system and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The rest is basically a Huawei P20 Pro in a Porsche Design body. So yes, this phone is incredibly expensive, but unlike many luxury items, it delivers both style and substance.”
