LG Optimus L5
Key specs
Critic consensus
“LG has cut quite a bit of corners as far as components are concerned with the L-style series, and the Optimus L5 is no exception to that rule. With a fairly slow single-core processor and a below average screen pixel density, it certainly won't appeal to the geeky crowd, but the design they are wrapped in makes it pretty comfortable to hold and nice to look at. Moreover, the phone has a good build quality, above average battery life, and also takes decent pictures, which make it a good everyday handset. Unfortunately voice quality is not that good, plus the phone only records VGA video, and those, coupled with the lack of a front-facing camera, place it at a disadvantage amongst the competition in that crowded price range.”

In Depth
LG has been serious in its quest to wow consumers with products coming from its stylishly sophisticated L-series of Android smartphones. And the Korean company has experienced quite a bit of success in this type of venture. With handsets like the LG Optimus L5, it’s hardly a surprise. While it’s no superphone, the L5 does come with a few interesting bullet points in its spec sheet. Not the least of which is the fact that its default operating system is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It comes equipped with an 800MHz Qualcomm processor and 512MB of onboard RAM. As you might have guessed, the phone is not as powerful as it could be if the focus had been on sheer performance. As it stands, though, this phone was designed with a focus on style. You can toss it inside any number of designer handbags and it will certainly be able to hold its own.
The included battery has a capacity of 1540 mAh. That means it should offer just about enough runtime for most anyone to make good use of its numerous hardware features, which include a 4-inch 320×480 capacitive touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, and support for microUSB connectivity and microSD expansion cards.
It’s clear that this device is not all that impressive—at least on paper. It takes a good hard look and a perhaps even a few seconds of touching to realize that its true beauty lies in how all hardware and software elements all blend together in one’s hand—or maybe even one’s pocket. If you’re the type of person who values form more than function, then the LG Optimus L5 is right up your alley.
