hi Carl P, I found that the upgrade version 6.0 allows formatting of SD cards as internal memory, but for some reason it would not work on the K8. We tried another new handset and SD card but still no joy, so I ended up with a Motorola android phone, which did allow this magical formatting trick!
thanks for your answers, it confirmed I was not deluded - well not on this matter, anyway!
