“Safe to say, LG has done it - all the right pieces are put together in what's a good-looking and powerful smartphone. And unlike the Optimus 4X HD, the Optimus G isn't trailing behind the competition. This time LG is ahead of the pack. The powerful S4 Pro chipset will make sure that you get as smooth a smartphone ride as you can possibly find. We are not just talking benchmark scores and bragging rights here - the LG Optimus G really moves around at the speed of your thought.”

“LG has made a massive leap forward in the United States with both the Optimus G for AT&T and its sibling for Sprint Wireless. In the past, the LG devices hardly topped any sale charts. This time around however, the LG Optimus G deserves a spot at the top of your shopping list for smartphones. The raw performance of the LG Optimus G is nothing short of superb - you will never feel short on processing power with the latest quad-core silicon and 2GB of RAM at your service. There's a flagship look and feel to the device as well - a first in the US for quite some time.Of course, things would be too good to be true, had the LG Optimus G turned out to be perfect. The camera performance for both the 8MP and the 13MP units is far from the best out there. We also don't believe that a flagship device with such hardware should launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this far into 2012.As you can see, the LG Optimus G has its work cut out for itself with such competition at hand. The good news for the Korean smartphone is that, for the first time in a long time, users won't have to make too big of a compromise if they go with an Optimus phone. An Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in the immediate future, coupled with a proper marketing budget will further elevate the chance for commercial success which the duo of handsets deserves.”

“The LG Optimus G is a glamorous handset that will take multitasking on mobile phones to the next level. You can do a lot of things on this phone, even without a stylus or a wider screen. Its QMemo feature lets you jot down quick notes during a call or when an idea appears in your head. You can also watch videos and, at the same time, reply to your messages with QSlide. The LG Optimus G is also the first handset to run on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. Together with 2 GB of RAM, multitasking on this phone is smooth and buttery.”

“Ultimately, the Optimus G is a great coming out party for LG. While the Nexus 4 is technically the device everyone will be talking about at the moment, this monster of a performer is just waiting in the wings, ready for anyone looking for a powerful phone already a few steps ahead of the competition. LG has packed in some incredible hardware, making this phone one of the best available on paper already.Which makes it even more of a pleasant surprise to know that the experience lives up to the hype. The quad-core processor makes for one of the smoothest experiences I have ever had, the Zerogap technology makes navigation a breeze, and the screen makes for some wonderful viewing experiences. Having a whopping 32 gigabytes of memory makes the lack of expandable memory easier to swallow, though the lack of a replaceable battery might prove a nuisance to power users. The eye-popping megapixel count on the camera and the content it is capable of creating excited my creative side, and I maintain that if the iPhone can be touted as a viable film camera, others should be able to, as well. I believe that the Optimus G is an example of how close we are to that, if not already there. As this is the Sprint version, you are essentially only being held back by the lack of service. While phone coverage and 3G connectivity performed well, the lack of 4G LTE across the board stifles the potential this phone has. Even in a highly populated metropolis like San Diego LTE is still not available. If you are getting a 4G LTE phone, you want to use that capability right away, not wait for one of your phone’s greatest features to finally become useful. If you are lucky enough to have 4G coverage, then there is a lot to love about the LG Optimus G. If anything, I am excited to see more phones follow suit with incredibly powerful processors and even higher quality cameras. For now, enjoy LG’s new flagship phone and, essentially, their comeback party. See above my video review, which includes some examples of how the camera on the Optimus G can be used.”

I have owned many different phones and I must say this is the best phone I've used yet. It's much faster and less glitchy than my previous S3. The LTE/Wifi is really fast. The screen is super crisp and clear. The build quality is premium, and although the camera is not quite as good as the S3/iPh...

In Depth

The LG Optimus G is one of the slimmest smartphones ever produced, and yet it’s also one of the most powerful. If you ask LG to describe it in two words or less, “crown jewel” is probably the best you’ll get.

And it is quite valuable indeed. Its design was the basis for one of Google’s own flagship phones, the Nexus 4. Its main features include a 4.7-inch HD touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. It comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed and is scheduled to be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the future. There’s no question that it’s one of the most feature-rich Android handsets out on the market at the moment. And it doesn’t hurt that it looks mighty fine, too.

It’s clear that LG worked very hard to deliver as many great features as possible to its customers with the Optimus G. It tends to get hot fairly quickly during usage, but that’s because it comes with one of the most powerful mobile processors ever created. If you’re inclined to give LG a shot and are looking to make the Optimus G your main device, prepare for your expectations to be met.

Need to Know: LG Optimus G

1. Runs on one of the fastest and most powerful mobile processors ever created. (The Good)

2. Uses a 4.7-inch 1280×720 HD screen in an 8mm thin casing. (The Good)

3. Doesn’t come with Jelly Bean as the default OS. (The Bad)

4. Battery life could be longer. (The Bad)
