“LG's new midrange Velvet phone is gorgeous and elegant, but whether it's worth buying depends on how much the company is planning to sell it for in the US.”

“If you absolutely must have the latest and greatest processor, or a state of the art camera system, the Velvet isn't for you. If, however, you value style on top of everything, don't want to actually pay the flagship premium, nor are you too keen to wait for one from LG, and feel like a second screen can add value to your everyday smartphone use, the Velvet will fit nicely.”

“With the Velvet, LG has managed to pull off a fascinating comeback into the midrange smartphone segment. A relatively high MSRP on paper is offset by a refined look and such premium features as stereo speakers, an IP68 certification and wireless charging. The Dual Screen case in the style of the Galaxy Fold also raises the LG smartphone above its midrange competitors. We were also positively surprised by the main camera, which takes nice shots in daylight and at nighttime.”

“This is by far the best (and most affordable) dual-screen offering from LG yet. It’s the next best thing to a foldable phone. It’s also far less fragile than Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, and you only have to pay around $700 instead of $2,000. If LG could fix the touch issues and throw in the Dual Screen case for free (as all three major US carriers did for the V60), then the Velvet could be a fun option that’s not entirely gimmicky.”
