“As you can see, the small-screen options are few and far between, so the Edge 50 Neo doesn't face too fierce competition. Despite its size, it's also well-equipped. You don't see many compact midrangers with a telephoto camera and wireless charging. The handset is also equipped with a higher-end LTPO OLED panel, decently fast charging capabilities and long battery life. The design is ergonomically-sound and the finish is soft and grippy. However, if the Motorola Edge 50 Neo didn't draw you with its compact size and you are just looking for a similarly priced handset in general, you will likely find better options for the price. The Edge 50 Neo failed to impress with performance and we expected better camera image quality.”

“The Motorola Edge 50 Neo will please fans of compact, affordable smartphones. It comes with an excellent camera system but could handle a bit more in the way of performance and battery life.”

“In the budget smartphone market, there’s rarely a device that can do it all, and that includes the Edge 50 Neo. However, it comes closer than most with an interesting and practical design, good performance, solid battery life, versatile cameras, a great screen and a comfortably portable design.”

“If you manage to overlook the plastic build there's actually quite a lot to love about the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. For the price Motorola is asking, this is absolutely a well rounded mid-range Android, with a great combination of display and audio quality to satiate your media enjoyment. You also have a surprisingly capable chipset on board that can handle more demanding games. The phone is also pretty good at preserving the battery life, lasting for longer than some of its main competition and more expensive models. The camera system, which is important for many users nowadays, has not only become more versatile with the addition of a telephoto lens, but it also does pretty well across the board.”

In Depth

Design

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo impresses with its fresh look, thanks to a partnership with Pantone, offering vibrant colors like Poinciana and Grisaille. These give the phone a unique flair often lacking in mid-range devices. The vegan leather back adds texture and enhances grip, making the phone comfortable to hold. The small 8.1 mm thickness and 171g weight make one-handed use easy, a notable benefit for day-to-day handling.

It maintains practicality with IP68 water and dust resistance. This means you can feel confident even if you’re caught in a rain shower or are handling it around water. Whilst it’s not the thinnest phone, its slim bezels around the 6.4-inch screen provide a good screen-to-body ratio. Reviewers from Notebookcheck praised the design for its “solid build” despite being a plastic frame, ensuring durability without sacrificing aesthetics.

Display(s)

The Edge 50 Neo features a 6.4-inch pOLED display with sharp and clear visuals, crafted for seamless interaction. The screen’s 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and swift animations, enhancing your overall experience.

It boasts an impressive brightness of up to 3000 nits, helping you maintain excellent visibility even in bright sunlight. Motorola’s attention to HDR compatibility offers deep, vivid colors that enrich video viewing and gaming time, making your media pop.

Overall, the display delivers an enjoyable user experience, balancing a high level of detail with robust brightness, as one reviewer mentioned, “The panel is OLED, colorful and contrasty, sharp at 474 ppi and bright enough to see in direct sunlight.”

Performance

The mobile device runs on the Dimensity 7300 processor, providing a sturdy experience for regular daily tasks and standard mobile usage. This setup can handle basic gaming and multitasking well, catering to general user needs.

While the performance is commendable for a mid-range smartphone, some users might witness minor lag when pushing the phone with resource-heavy apps or games. As one reviewer pointed out, “The performance of the Dimensity 7300 is pretty impressive with fast launching of most apps,” yet occasional setbacks may occur.

Overall, it strikes a fine balance between power and efficiency, ensuring that most consumers get satisfactory speed and reliability for their connected lifestyle.

Software & Storage

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo runs Android 14 with a familiar, uncluttered interface. You’ll appreciate the ease of use, thanks to its minimal pre-installed apps and Moto gestures.

Reviewers highlight the efficient ‘twist-to-launch camera’ and ‘karate-chop to torch’ features, adding convenience to everyday tasks. Five years of promised Android updates from Motorola are another advantage, underscoring long-term support and security.

As ‘Notebookcheck’ observed, the software remains light and responsive, making it a solid choice for those seeking an uncomplicated Android phone.

Cameras

The Edge 50 Neo offers a triple-camera setup with 50MP main, 13MP ultra-wide, and 10MP telephoto lenses, giving you flexibility from wide shots to 3x zoom.

While daytime photos capture vibrant colors, low-light performance can suffer from occasional softness. Experts note the inclusion of a telephoto lens as a surprising bonus in this range.

Expect steady handling in darker settings, but don’t rely on it for ultra-clear night captures. The system works well for casual photography without breaking the bank.

Battery

Throughout various tests, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo consistently offers up to two full days of battery life. This means you won’t have to worry about constant charging disruptions.

Charging is another strong point, as one expert review highlighted, “you can get a full charge in around an hour using the included 68W charger.” This ensures you spend less time plugged in and more time enjoying your device.

The support for 15W wireless charging adds even more convenience, giving you flexibility in how you choose to power up the phone.

Audio

This phone’s stereo setup combines the earpiece with a bottom speaker for clear audio output. Reviewers note the “speakers can achieve high volume without distortion,” which is great for calls and media alike. The Dolby Atmos support can enhance sound quality, particularly when using earphones, although the lack of a headphone jack is notable for some users.

For media, the experience is generally satisfying, with voices and music sounding clear. However, bass response isn’t particularly deep, which avid music lovers might find lacking.

Overall, while not perfect, the audio performance makes watching movies and casual gaming enjoyable with clear and loud sound. Remember to use good headphones for the best spatial audio effects.

The Bottom Line

This phone is built for those who value comfort in one-handed use and seek a durable design with IP68 rating. You get a Pantone-inspired color choice and a vegan leather back that offers a pleasant texture, upping the style game without breaking the bank. With 5 years of software support, you can expect long-term usage without feeling obsolete.

Reviewers noted, “While it’s not a powerhouse, it’s good for daily use,” emphasizing that it’s perfect for regular needs but may not satisfy those seeking top-notch performance or photography.

The addition of a telephoto camera adds versatility, though image quality in low-light could be improved. Ultimately, it’s about balance and longevity, making it attractive for budget-conscious buyers.
