“We are happy to see that Motorola has not lost its spirit for innovation, and again proves that one can show even smartphone moguls that there is still some room for improvement with clever ideas. Active Display is a very useful feature and can increase the only middling runtimes considerably in routine use.Motorola has also done a good job with the screen. Relatively minor color shifts, a very good contrast, and a deep black result in a great picture. It only could be brighter, and the colors might shine a bit too intensely for some tastes. The software bundle, featuring the original Android, the interesting software offerings, and Motorola Connect that allows answering text messages even over the PC, is very well designed. We are just as pleased about the good touchscreen and decent camera. The fully integrated Google Now is also a nice gimmick. Extensive wireless communication equipment, including LTE and high-speed Wi-Fi, are also in the bundle.Motorola would have to work on the design. The front and back covers do not really match. There is actually not much more to complain about. The Moto X is more than a solid and very powerful mid-range smartphone that stands out with clever ideas. Users who can live with the design should definitely take a look at the phone.”

“The Motorola Moto X certainly is a smartphone full of character. Instead of following the established trend set by high-end Androids over the years, it dares go where no other handset has gone before. It may not look the flagship part on paper but it very much feels like one in real life.”

“After two weeks of use, I've come to like the Moto X. I don't understand any assessment of the phone that calls it some kind of game-changer, but it's a very amiable, approachable handset. It feels good to hold and use, and the active notifications in particular are something I'll miss when I go back to my iPhone 4S. It doesn't offer all the specs of its contemporaries, but the Moto X is worthy of consideration because it's a decently sized, mostly well-built phone with a few useful tweaks.”

“In one sense, nothing has changed since our initial Moto X review based on our US experience of this phone. But that was six months ago and pre-Nexus 5. Times have changed, but our soft spot for this phone hasn't.We still do wholeheartedly recommend the Moto X. Sure, it lacks the power of the higher-end competition, and it's more expensive than the Nexus 5, but there's more to a phone than raw power. We think, what the Motorola does is worth a price premium over the Nexus 5.”

This phone doesn't have a block number feature, the backing pops off too easily and its hard to find a decent case for this phone. Ive had two of these phones, one being a replacement and the battery is expanding and it shuts off saying its dead even though its fully charged.

In Depth

The Motorola Moto X is the first Google-created phone from Motorola. Unlike many other smartphones of its class, the Moto X offers incredible customization from memory storage to color choice of the phone itself.

The X offers a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of memory and either 16 or 32B of onboard storage. Although these specs aren’t particularly impressive, especially compared to phones like the HTC One and Galaxy S4, TechRadar notes that that phone offers notable features such as “hands-free Google Now voice commands, a clever notification system and camera access with the flick of wrist.” Despite the lower hardware specs, the phone boasts a long battery life and, according to Motorola, can last up to 10 days on standby mode and Engadget notes that the battery life lasted well over 24-hours with numerous apps running.

The 4.7” screen on the Moto X has a 720p resolution, which is lower than the HTC One display and other smartphones in its class. Despite a slightly lower resolution, Engadget notes that the screen “looks great from most any angle…That said, it’s not the brightest display…and the glaring light of a bright summer sun does make it difficult to discern onscreen content.” In addition, the smaller screen means a smaller phone. TechRadar says that the size and weight of the phone make it easier to wield than current Android leaders and goes on to say that “it’s easy to operate in one hand, due to its moderate size as well as a power button and volume rocker on the right side.”

Most reviewers agree that the Moto X is an excellent phone despite some pitfalls. Engadget states that “it’s the smartest smart object I’m currently carrying on my person.” While TechRadar disliked the camera quality and the lack of removable storage they still praise the phone saying, “It is a great phone though, one we’d be happy to champion.”

The Good: Excellent battery life, good viewing angle, customization of actual phone color.

The Bad: Poor quality camera, no removable storage, lower screen resolution when compared to Android phone leaders.
