“At first glance, the Motorola One Action looks quite impressive, what with its good hardware, modern design and its innovative action camera. However, the so-called action cam seems a bit half-baked, because the smartphone is not water-proof. The video stabilization of the action camera works well, which means that anyone who would like to shoot video while biking will find the Motorola smartphone quite compelling.”

“The Motorola One Action's one defining feature is also sort of its curse. The thing is, most phones in its price range already have ultra wide angle cameras and those would be ultra wide cameras you can also take pictures with, unlike the Action's video-only implementation. And it's not like the One Action impresses when it comes to the basics - its display is only so-so in the tests, battery life leaves a lot to be desired, and the selfie cam takes up a lot of space on the front, both physically and in software.”

“It definitely brings a lot of bang for one’s buck — especially if you are interested in the action camera feature. To put it in perspective — this is roughly the same price tier as a budget GoPro camera. And the Motorola One Action arguably delivers better stabilization and better sound recording than a budget GoPro. To top it off, it’s an Android phone — you will be able to instantly sync, upload, or even remix your clips straight on the phone. As a smartphone, it also delivers in the key areas — the battery life is dependable, the storage is plentiful, the performance is acceptable.”

“Camera gimmicks aside, the Moto One Action is a well-rounded phone for sensible money. Vanilla Android and a sizable screen make up for middling battery life and only average quality photos.”
