“The OnePlus 6T is true flagship killer that packs in the essentials while also having great battery life. Regional price differences aside, the 6T has a marginally higher starting price than its predecessor, but you do get double the storage for only $20 more. Unfortunately, the in-screen fingerprint sensor is slower and less accurate at recognising fingerprints than its predecessor’s rear-mounted sensor.”

“The 6T puts OnePlus in the best market position the company has ever been in. Usually with OnePlus, you get a phone that is basically the same as what everyone else is doing but is cheaper, making it a great deal. But with the smaller notch and in-screen fingerprint reader, OnePlus is offering something cheaper and better than the competition.”

“The OnePlus 6T is frankly an equally attractive option as its predecessor. True, nothing major has changed: the chipset is the same, and so are the cameras. Still, for anyone looking for a flagship alternative to the mainstream option today, the OnePlus 6T is a no-brainer over its predecessor.”

“For that premium, you get a sleek and attractive (yet subtle) color scheme, a bright orange Warp 30 charger, 2 extra GB of RAM that don't make a difference in everyday performance in the first place, a few software exclusivities, and a premium unboxing experience with a memorable McLaren plaque and look-book in the box. OnePlus has also thrown in a free case which would otherwise cos t you around $30.”

In Depth

The OnePlus 6T hopes to keep up the company’s record of producing devices that rival top-tier phones on the market while offering prices closer to the mid-tier. The 6T is an iterative update to the popular OnePlus 6 .

As such, most changes were subtle. But there are a few additions — and subtractions — to consider when deciding if the phone is for you.

Around front, you’ll see one of the biggest changes to the phone. The 6.41-inch AMOLED panel is nearly bezel-free. Running at 2340-by-1080 pixels, reviews indicate it offers outstanding clarity and punchy, vivid colors to help make games, pictures, and movies pop.

The screen also includes with one of the smallest notches used on a mobile phone to date. It’s a slight dip for the single-lens camera and nothing more. The earpiece is located on the top edge of the phone to keep the notch as small as possible. Unfortunately, OnePlus also removed the notification LED to save space.

The screen also hides an in-display fingerprint sensor. While the technology looks cool, reviewers found it hit or miss. So you might be better relying on facial recognition or a PIN to secure your phone.

To make matters worse, OnePlus removed the 3.5mm headphone jack to make room for the in-display scanner. But they include a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box should you need it.

The OxygenOS software running the device is based on Android 9.0 Pie. It offers a nearly stock Android experience. Reviewers loved the snappy response time in menus and panels and the minimal changes made.

The only other change to the phone is a larger battery. Now rated at 3,700mAh, the battery should have no problem lasting through a day of regular use.

Otherwise, the phone is identical to its predecessor. For more on what to expect from the phone in terms of performance, cameras, and more, check out our summary for the OnePlus 6 .
