OnePlus Nord N20 5G

Design

The OnePlus Nord N20 features a stylish, minimalist design with a flat back and pronounced camera lenses that add a touch of elegance. Despite its plastic build, experts note it feels more like metal, giving off a more expensive vibe. The phone’s slim profile and 173g weight make it comfortable for one-handed use, addressing the common struggle of handling larger phones easily.

The only available Blue Smoke color option presents a subtle yet attractive finish, with reviewers like Sachin Bahal from Foundry appreciating the break from typical black and white options. Notably, the phone’s IP52 rating adds some confidence against mild splashes, though you shouldn’t rely on it for full waterproofing as with some pricier models.

Display(s)

The OnePlus Nord N20 display offers a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen, bringing out vivid colors and true blacks, making scrolling and media viewing a pleasure.

While the display runs at a 60Hz refresh rate, reviewers believe it’s a worthwhile trade-off for the superior color quality of AMOLED over an LCD screen.

Eli from CNET shared that the display “looks good,” highlighting its capability to perform well even versus more expensive models. Advanced screen technologies like this aren’t commonplace in phones at this price range, making it a standout feature.

Performance

The OnePlus Nord N20 features a Snapdragon 695 chip, allowing you to navigate apps swiftly without noticeable lag. You’ll enjoy multitasking, streaming, and light gaming without major slowdowns, providing a balanced mobile experience for the average user.

Andrew from Android Central shares, “Even games like Minecraft ran at a buttery smooth 60FPS at default settings.” While high-end gaming may challenge the phone’s capabilities, everyday performance remains steady and reliable.

Software & Storage

The device operates on Android 11 with OxygenOS 11, offering a clean and intuitive user interface. The phone offers basic features like Always On Display and some pre-installed apps like a file manager and notes.

Despite its older software version, the Nord N20’s touch controls are designed for large displays, making navigation easier.

TechRadar mentioned, “You’re only promised one major update,” highlighting the limited software support.

Cameras

The camera setup, led by the 64MP main lens, works well in bright settings, producing vibrant photos that are clear enough for social media. An expert at TechRadar suggests it’s best for undemanding users, as “the two additional lenses feel like unnecessary extras.” You may find nighttime shots challenging, lacking the sharpness seen in pricier models, despite having a night mode.

The macro and monochrome lenses add little to the table, with reviewers pointing out their limited practicality and poor focus. The selfie shooter holds its own, capturing reasonable detail, suitable for social media and video calls. If photography isn’t your main concern, you might find these features adequate for basic needs.

Battery

You can count on the OnePlus Nord N20 for lasting power with a robust 4,500mAh battery. Many users report the phone easily lasting throughout a day of regular activities, alleviating the common dread of needing to recharge frequently. “The battery barely broke a sweat,” according to TechRadar, solidifying its efficiency in routine use.

Charging is quick and convenient. With the included 33W fast charger, you can expect to reach about 50% charge in just 30 minutes. This feature is particularly useful for those busy days when you need your phone back in action quickly. Even without wireless charging, the fast-wired option helps you stay untethered from the outlet for most of your day.

Despite its competitive price, the phone does leave room to improve on battery longevity in comparison to others equipped with the same processor. Experts note the device offers solid battery capability suitable for an everyday phone meeting various needs seamlessly.

Audio

The audio on the phone, while acceptable for day-to-day calls, has limitations when it comes to richer activities like gaming or watching movies. The mono speaker is positioned next to the charging port and can get adequately loud. Reviews by experts highlight that this speaker “can get loud” but lacks the fullness found in higher-end models.

For calls, the sound is clear, allowing you to communicate effectively. This is particularly useful if you’re frequently on calls in quieter environments. Yet, for richer media experiences, you might find the sound slightly underwhelming and may benefit from using external speakers or headphones.

The Bottom Line

This phone offers an impressive AMOLED display and consistent performance for daily tasks, making it a strong choice for budget buyers. The Snapdragon 695 processor ensures smooth operation for most casual apps and activities. The 33W charging keeps the device ready when you need it, although the single software update limit might disappoint those looking for longevity in software support. Reviewers note that while its gaming capabilities are decent, high-frequency gaming might push the phone’s limits, reflecting its affordable pricing.
