“Sony Ericsson are trying to diversify their Walkman series in all price segments and form factors. The Sony Ericsson W580 joins the ranks as a mid-tier slider. With its design and compact size it's likely to inspire a predominantly young following. Users will appreciate the adequate 2 megapixel camera, quality display, elaborate music features and the fitness application. The lack of notification of missed events and the low-resolution video are the major disappointments. Light effects are not much of a boost either. Sony Ericsson W580 will be in sale any moment now. The main competitor Nokia 5300 is also a music slider. Its 1.3 megapixel camera and 256MB memory card are not much of a brag, but the difference in price can be decisive.”

“Sony Ericsson S500 is a mid-range slider of slim design and daring exterior, which offers very standard, not to say unoriginal, functionality. Available for around 225 Euro, the S500 is easily challenged by a number of Sony Ericsson models offering respectable functions in this price range. Which way you will go is just up to you.The S500 will easily appeal to the senses, but the Walkman W580 could well be the more reasonable option. FM radio, fitness application, superior headset, and a 512-MB memory card are enough features to make the Walkman phone worth the additional investment.”

“The latest Walkman phone offers clear sound and a sleek design for active users on a budget.”

“If it weren't for the you-know-what-Phone, Sony Ericsson's latest would be the music mobile to beat. Though not as graphically inspiring as its sleek rival, the music player functions very well and even outdoes Apple's device thanks to its FM radio, stereo widening, and much louder speaker. A pedometer plus fitness software for measuring distance, calories burned, and lap times make it the perfect exercise buddy. Only major flaw is its undersize keypad, which seems to have been designed for baby Smurfs.WIRED: Half-inch thin. Super light (3.3 ounces). Browser provides easy Gmail and Google Maps access. 256-MB memory card in box. Unique extras like TrackID, mini music sequencer, and video editor.TIRED: No camera flash. Sorta pointless shuffle feature requires you to press a button, then shake.”

I've had my phone for almost a year and so far it seems to be working well. I just use the basic features (address book, speaker phone, camera, etc.) and do not use the additional bells and whistles either already with the phone or available for purchase. Another nice feature is the slide and ope...

The hardware in the phone is amazing. However, the the buttons crack way to easy and the slider is only a smooth slide for so long...
