Xiaomi 17 Ultra

Design

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra stands out with its striking design. Its large circular camera module grabs attention and serves as a focal point of the phone’s look. Despite its size, the phone feels lighter than expected in the hand. The design ensures it sits comfortably, owing to its rounded corners.

Experts praise its choice of materials, noting that the phone’s fiber-reinforced plastic back offers a premium feel. According to reviewers, the aluminum frame adds to the phone’s overall sturdy build.

However, some find the rear design forgettable, comparing it to the more unique designs of previous Ultra models. Still, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s robust design and thoughtful ergonomics make it a choice for those seeking style and substance in their mobile experience.

Display(s)

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra comes with a 6.9-inch OLED screen that bursts with color and clarity. With a high peak brightness of 3,500 nits, you’ll have no trouble viewing what’s on your screen, even in direct sunlight. This offers a practical solution when you’re out and about.

The OLED technology ensures deep blacks and vibrant colors, making your viewing experience richer whether you’re watching videos or browsing photos. The sharpness at a 2608 x 1200 resolution creates visuals that are crisp and detailed, enhancing everything from photos to text.

The fluidity during scrolling is noticeable, thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring movements and transitions appear smooth. Whether you’re gaming or just exploring your apps, the responsive touch input and minimal lag mean a seamless experience every time.

Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor powers this smartphone with exceptional speed. Quick app launches, smooth multitasking, and stunning graphics are a given, letting you glide from emails to games effortlessly.

With 16GB of RAM, everything responds quickly, making the phone feel always ready for your next tap or swipe, even during intense gaming sessions. Experts at PhoneArena noted, “Exceptional performance, great main camera, and a super-classy exterior make it one respectable Android flagship.”

Software & Storage

You’ll appreciate the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s user-friendly interface. Experts report HyperOS 3.0 is designed to feel familiar and enhance Android 16, offering fluid navigation and customization options.

I found the interface intuitive, making everyday tasks smooth. You’ll get five years of interface upgrades and enjoy six years of security updates.

Some reviewers, like those from Digital Trends, enjoy the logical layout but note some unnecessary app inclusions.

Cameras

The smartphone’s camera prowess is noteworthy, featuring a main 50MP camera with an enhanced 1-inch sensor, which allows more light in, giving you vibrant shots even in low-light conditions. One expert mentioned the main camera’s ability to achieve nearly noiseless photos while maintaining natural color tones, especially in nighttime settings.

This phone also offers a versatile 200MP telephoto lens, perfect for zooming in on distant scenes without losing image quality. Reviewers highlight how the optical stabilization ensures sharp and stable images during zoom.

Despite its strengths, you might notice minor color variations when switching between the main and zoom lenses. Reviewers found this hardly noticeable in most scenarios, praising the camera’s dynamic range.

The front camera doesn’t disappoint either, delivering impressive selfies with its 50MP sensor. An expert mentioned it does a stellar job capturing natural portraits, offering you clarity and detail that’s hard to match.

Battery

You’ll appreciate the large 6,000mAh battery capacity for all-day usage, especially if you’re often on your phone without access to a charger. Even when you push toward five hours of screen time, the battery competently lasts for a day, offering peace of mind.

Reviewers at Digital Trends noted the phone doesn’t surpass competitors like the OnePlus 15 for sheer battery longevity, yet its charging capabilities compensate well. You can quickly juice it back up to 100% in approximately one hour using the 90W wired charging, or wirelessly at 50W for added convenience.

Despite the high performance and energy demands of the robust Snapdragon processor, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra manages power efficiently, keeping disconnections low in your busy day. While it may not come with a charger in the box, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra makes it easy to stay powered on through any schedule.

Audio

Equipped with stereo speakers that deliver clear mids and highs, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra provides a satisfying sound for both calls and entertainment. The audio quality, particularly for vocals and dialogue, makes conversations crisp and easily understandable, even in lively environments.

Experts note “the speakers perform well for a smartphone,” ensuring that you’ll enjoy videos and games without needing additional audio gear. The mostly flat and clear soundstage is more than adequate for casual listening, although it lacks the bass depth found in some external speakers.

Whether you’re using it for calls or enjoying a movie, the audio capabilities of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra enhance your daily listening, proving to be a reliable companion in various scenarios.

The Bottom Line

For those who prioritize camera quality, this phone shines with its standout camera system. Featuring a large sensor and impressive zoom capabilities, it caters to photography enthusiasts with precision and clarity. The design is sturdy yet stylish, fitting comfortably in the hand despite its size. There are some battery life concerns; it doesn’t lead the class for longevity. Yet, the compelling photography experience and fast performance make it a top contender for camera-centric users.
