ZTE nubia Z80 Ultra

Design

The phone stands out with its unique design, inspired by art and sleek aesthetics, making a strong visual statement. According to Trusted Reviews, its design “refuses to blend in.” You might find the hues and finish reminiscent of an artistic statement piece rather than just a phone.

The phone presents a well-thought-out build quality, noted by Stuff for using “no cheap-feeling materials.” Red accents and a comfortable curve emphasize the device’s premium impression without the premium price tag. Experts describe its frosted back as being fingerprint-proof, which simplifies long-term maintenance.

Despite the sleek look, you’ll feel comfortable using the phone due to its subtle curves and rounded frame, providing a steady grip for all-day use. While it weighs more than some flagships, the weight reflects its robust construction, suitable for durability. The CreativeEdge Design praises its ergonomics and the efficient layout of buttons, enhancing ease of use.

Display(s)

The display spans 6.85 inches and offers vibrant colors, thanks to its AMOLED technology with HDR10 support. The screen stays bright with up to 2000 nits, ensuring visibility even in direct sunlight.

“Gamers and mobile movie lovers will appreciate the Z80 Ultra’s under-display front camera, which is practically invisible,” commented one reviewer. This provides an immersive experience when you’re watching videos or gaming.

The phone’s refresh rate can dynamically adjust up to 144Hz, giving you smooth scrolling and gameplay. You’ll find this perfect for both everyday use and more intensive graphics tasks.

Performance

The Nubia Z80 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor ensures rapid performance for every application, letting you browse and multitask without interruptions.

Experts note “lightning-fast performance” that handles intensive gaming sessions on the highest settings, thanks to the cooling system preventing overheating and performance drops.

The battery lasts into a second day even with heavy use, and quick 80W charging gets you back to full power in under an hour, keeping you ready for prolonged periods without needing a charge.

Software & Storage

If you like the feel of plain Android, you’ll find Nubia’s take fits your taste. With few preloaded apps, there’s less clutter for you to worry about.

Reviewers praise the minimal additions, calling it a breeze to use without unwanted bloat.

Yet, you need to be aware that software support promises only a few years of updates, which isn’t ideal if you prefer long-term reliability.

Cameras

The ZTE nubia Z80 Ultra offers a unique camera setup that stands out from the crowd, focused on delivering true-to-life shots. With a 50MP main camera featuring a natural 35mm equivalent focal length, you’ll capture images that resemble what the human eye sees, making portraits and street photography come alive.

Complementing the main shooter, you’ll find a 64MP telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide lens, providing a versatile array for different photographic needs. Reviewers from Digital Camera World mention its “35mm camera optics” as a standout feature for photography enthusiasts.

Despite some image processing quirks, the camera performance in good lighting is impressive, with detailed and vibrant results. The under-display selfie camera trades some clarity for an uninterrupted screen, so selfie fans may miss some detail. Overall, the Z80 Ultra’s cameras cater to those seeking creativity and quality, albeit with a few trade-offs.

Battery

Equipped with a massive 7200mAh battery, the Nubia Z80 Ultra easily lasts up to two days with regular use, offering remarkable peace of mind for users who dread the daily charge. This long-lasting battery life ensures your phone stays powered even through extended gaming or photography sessions.

Charging is seamless and swift with 80W support for both wired and wireless charging. As noted by experts, “a full charge takes just under an hour,” letting you quickly get back to your routine without much downtime.

Even the most demanding tasks barely put a dent in the battery life, making this phone ideal for those who demand power and reliability throughout their busy schedules.

Audio

The Nubia Z80 Ultra is built with stereo speakers that deliver solid volume for entertainment purposes, ensuring you get a rich sound experience during games and movies. “The bass, however, is not as rich as audio champions like the ROG phones,” experts warn, but the overall audio quality offers a satisfactory performance for personal use.

Reviewers note, “The configuration can easily become muffled when the phone is held in landscape mode,” a factor to be mindful of during gaming sessions. The audio remains clear, with an emphasis on high and mid tones, making it enjoyable for most use cases. Bluetooth connectivity also offers convenience for wireless listening, although you might miss the headphone jack.

The Bottom Line

This phone stands out with its distinct design and strong battery life, offering more creativity in photography with a 35mm lens option. Performance is fast, making it a great choice for gaming and media use. You may find the minimal software experience a good fit if you dislike clutter, while the under-display selfie camera keeps the screen whole. Experts agree it’s a very affordable option with high-end specs, but “unpolished software” is a noted drawback.
