The rundown

About Metro by T-Mobile

Who they are

Metro by T-Mobile is T-Mobile’s in-house prepaid brand, owned and operated by T-Mobile rather than a separate company, with roots in the former MetroPCS network. It runs as prepaid with no contract and no credit check, sold online and through Metro-branded retail stores, authorized dealers, and some big-box partners.

Network & coverage

Metro runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide network, the same infrastructure as T-Mobile’s postpaid service, so coverage matches T-Mobile’s footprint. All plans include T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G, primarily mid-band, with a compatible device. One catch worth knowing: Metro traffic sits at a lower network priority than T-Mobile postpaid, so during congestion Metro speeds can slow before postpaid customers feel it.

How pricing works

Metro is prepaid with no contract and no early-termination fee. The lineup runs from a bring-your-own-device entry plan up through several unlimited tiers, with steep multi-line discounts when lines share a plan. Taxes and provider fees are included in the advertised price. Most tiers assume autopay enrollment for the listed rate, while a flat-priced unlimited option needs none. A multi-year price guarantee covers talk, text, and data.

Who it’s for

Metro suits people who want all-in prepaid pricing on T-Mobile’s network with the reassurance of a locked rate, no credit check, and the option to handle setup in a store. It is less suited to heavy data users who need top-priority speeds in crowded areas, since Metro yields to T-Mobile postpaid during congestion. The alternatives below are worth a look if guaranteed premium data is your priority.

“This T-Mobile subsidiary offers better pricing for light data use and exempts music streaming from its data caps.”

Tom’s Guide 6.9

“MetroPCS's strong showing in our network-carrier tests — it was the fastest discount carrier and its download and upload speeds even topped Sprint's — makes it a top choice among prepaid carriers. We also like the range of plans MetroPCS offers subscribers, from a $30 1GB plan for people who don't need a lot of data to a $60 unlimited plan. But poor customer service — MetroPCS finished last in our tests — coupled with the limited number of phones and features you typically get from a discount carrier, failed to push MetroPCS past its closest rival, Boost.”

“MetroPCS is the best budget cell phone provider we tested. Its plans cost less than major carriers while still offering comparable network performance, reliability and speed. If you live within a T-Mobile covered area and want to save money on your cell phone bill, we highly recommend checking MetroPCS out.”

“Metro by T-Mobile gives you service on the nationwide T-Mobile 4G LTE network at a lower price. Whether or not Metro by T-Mobile pricing is competitive is highly dependent upon what you're looking for. If you're looking for a light to no data plan you can certainly find cheaper MVNOs to fit those needs. However, if you're looking for unlimited this is going to be one of the best deals you'll get for an MVNO.”

WhistleOut
WhistleOut 8.7

“While T-Mobile's network shines in many cities, it lags in certain rural areas of the U.S., falling behind, especially, Verizon. However, the company has been aggressively expanding in areas like the southeastern and western U.S., which will undoubtedly lead to more comprehensive coverage for T-Mobile and MetroPCS subscribers alike.”

We recently visited T-Mobile to set up internet service for $50 per month, and Martina, the saleswoman, assisted us. During the process, she explained that we needed to change our plan, as we were already T-Mobile customers. She told us the total cost would be $208, explaining that this was an ad...

UPDATE: If your account is still active, you can change your due date for a fee of $5, plus taxes and fees. This fee must be paid immediately. Please contact Metro by T-Mobile to make this change.

If your account is within 7 days of suspension and you have not recently applied for a bill extension, you can check your eligibility in the myMetro app. Bill extensions allow you to make and receive calls and send and receive texts for a period of 72 hours only. Please note that there is no extension available for data services. You can only be granted one extension per 30 days, and this can only be done within 7 days of your due date.

Got a new phone through your company a month ago and a new account and 30 days later my phone was past due got shut off so I walked all the way up to your store in the snow got it three day extension and on the way back from the store the phone shut off and wouldn't charge again so two days later I went back to the store and they looked it up it was 30 days ago there was no damage no cracks in the phone they checked no water damage nothing so they said I had to go through my insurance it was going to take a few days in the meantime the 3-day extension ended so I'm pretty sure that counts suspended then 5 days later they call the phones in I'm having serious financial issues right now and they're telling me I have to pay for activation and I'm going to have to pay the $85 Bill to get it turned on and I just don't have it all right now first of all I feel they should have just giving me a phone right then and there cuz the brand new phone broke under your company and had nothing to do with me so that I've been out of a phone and they're making me pay more money to get it back on and I feel I've been without a phone for a week now after 30 days of having a brand new phone it should have not just stopped working and I shouldn't have to go through all this I feel I should get compensated in some way like a free month or something

As noted over at this bill extension thread, it seems that MetroPCS now only gives you the option for a maximum extension of 48 hours.

And...to get the extension, your account must already be suspended.

Once it's suspended, you can contact them to apply for the extension.

NOTE: you can contact Metro by T-Mobile via phone at 1-877-453-1304. Additional Metro contact information is listed here.

If your account is about to be suspended and you haven't asked for more time, check if you're eligible in the myMetro app. Extensions allow calls and texts for 72 hours, but not internet services. You can only get one extension every 30 days and it must be within 7 days of your due date.

I just called MetroPCS and ask for a couple extra days to pay my bill. And she told me it would cost me $25 for a extension.. to be paid in the next 24 hours. And it would not go towards my bill... How crazy is that and normally I pay my bill a few weeks in advance.

In order to get your 72-hour extension you have to ask for it within a week or 7 days of your due date if you try to get it the day before they won't allow you to get it there That's what they did to me last night anyway please correct me if I'm wrong cuz I could use some good news

If your account has been suspended within the past 7 days and you have not applied for a bill extension recently, you can check your eligibility in the myMetro app. Bill extensions allow you to make and receive calls, as well as send and receive texts, for a period of 72 hours only. Please note that data services are not eligible for an extension. You can only be granted one extension per 30 days, and this can only be done within 7 days of your due date.

thanks for looking at my question. I had exported the call detail from this line on my account at the time to excel spreadsheet. The 714 numbers dialed never showed up on the phones call log either, nor did the incoming call they generated.  There is always 2 outgoing calls made to the same 714 number followed by either 1 or 2 incoming calls to my number. I identified this as a pattern because the calls are always at the same exact time and the same duration, - a few seconds on the incoming call. i was thinking maybe its when the internet was accessed, it was an old flip phone, but the 714 numbers hadn't always appeared.  metro couldn't answer what they were when i called and asked them.  perhaps it was an outside application used to make phone calls, but did they have those on a flip phone from 2010?

CA
Carl · Answered

Yes, there were multiple flip phones sold by MetroPCS back at 2010. Yeah, noticed the pattern. If I were you, I'd ask for a copy of call logs on that period of time. This is just to make sure they give me the same logs so as to not think that those logs you posted are not mistakes/errors.

  2. Follow the prompts to reach a representative.
  3. Inform the representative that you want to cancel autopay for your MetroPCS account.
  4. Provide any required information to verify your identity.
  5. Follow any additional instructions provided by the representative to complete the process.

Alternatively, you can also visit a MetroPCS store and speak to a representative in person to stop autopay for your account.
