“There's no question about the unibody's toughness, and many other features we've seen here are of significant improvements over the Hero, namely the AMOLED screen (in general), FM radio, optical trackpad (debatable), still camera and the new goodies plus performance boost in Sense UI. Sure, there are major flaws in the battery life and video recording performance, but there's a chance that these can be fixed via a software upgrade, if they weren't of hardware glitches. Some may have hoped for some 720p video capture capability, but hey, isn't that what the Desire's for? We hope so. Anyway, we'll know which one's of the best value when both phones are available in European shops.”
“The HTC Legend takes everything that was great about the HTC Hero and makes it even better. With the Hero having won CNET UK's coveted Editors' Choice award in July last year, that's no mean feat. But this smart phone isn't just a refresh of the Hero -- good-looking, speedy and fun to use, it's a legend in its own right. We're still waiting for contract prices for the Legend, but you can pre-order it SIM-free for around £380.”
“We are happy to say the HTC Legend is certainly not a victim of the sequel syndrome. Hard facts of life, you know. Traditionally, first episodes of acclaimed movie series tend to be the best, with sequels proving to be progressively worse. Fortunately, this is not the case with the HTC Legend and it’s more like “Batman: The Dark Knight” – better than the previous iterations. At the same time, it’s not that different from them either. The most significant change alongside of the HTC Hero is the outward appearance – the aluminum body feels truly great and utterly solid in your hand. The camera has been substantially improved as well and while the AMOLED screen is a cool feature indeed, we would have liked it much better if it came with WVGA resolution rather than HVGA. The overall operational performance of the device is better, plus the HTC Sense interface brings several (albeit minor) novelties. We do have a few gripes about the multimedia capabilities of the handset and it would have been great if the HTC Legend was able to handle at least DivX videos. Apparently proper video playback will be an exclusive privilege of the HTC Desire (after software update). The pre-installed audio player lacks equalizer functionality and the audio playback quality is not exactly the best we’ve heard either.”
“The HTC Legend is certainly worthy of its name, and offers a worthwhile upgrade to its predecessor, the HTC Hero. The aluminium unibody and AMOLED display alone are worth the upgrade, not to mention the slightly faster processor, upgraded UI, bigger battery, and optical joystick. It's an altogether improved package and shows how fast HTC have progressed in less than a year. It's certainly my favourite HTC Android handset so far, but that's likely to change again when the new HTC Desire arrives soon. Another significant improvement on the Legend is the camera and its new flash. The flash has made the camera infinitely more usable than before, and shots taken in low light came out surprisingly well. Of course, you still have the 3.5mm headphone port and the microSD card slot, making the Legend a formidable media player as well, and the new browser with Flash support is a pleasure to use.”
