“The HTC Tattoo, a bargain version of the company's flagship phones, is like an elderly HTC Hero -- shrunken and less perky, but still with plenty of fun times left in the tank. You'll definitely notice the corners that have been cut -- the resistive touchscreen is especially annoying -- but, if you're looking to save some pennies, you can't beat a bargain handset that offers all the power of an Android smart phone. The HTC Tattoo doesn't skimp in the software department, providing all of the power of Android, plus the Hero's social-networking extras. But you'll miss out on the pleasure of using a big, bright, responsive touchscreen. If you bite your nails, stay away from this phone. For those who don't, we'd recommend the Tattoo above its bargain competitors, such as the Samsung Tocco Lite.”
“Frankly, we are in two minds about the HTC Tattoo. On the one hand, it´s a likeable, compact Android smartphone running the cool Sense interface. On the other, the concessions the manufacturer has had to make to keep the price low are neither minor, nor just a few. We don’t really have a problem with the screen size itself, the thing is the lower resolution is equivalent to extremely poor catalogue of applications, compatible with the device. This is a bitter pill to swallow and definitely something we are unwilling to put up with. Even more so, now that Android seems to be making evolutionary leaps forward and its development is picking up speed. The unhandy resistive technology incorporated into the display and the barren waste that the application catalogue for the device is, paired with all the other minor, yet real drawbacks of the handset would have made the HTC Tattoo a viable option if it was available at an affordable price. Sadly, this is so not the case. Just for a few bucks more you can easily get yourself the myTouch 3G – yes, it comes without the Sense interface, but is superior to the Tattoo in every single way. In case you are flat out determined to get a cell phone delivering the handy features of the socially-oriented Sense interface, we would definitely advise you to consider the HTC Hero – its price is not that much higher now and the handset is head and shoulders above the Tattoo.”
“The HTC Tattoo is a great little phone that is possibly the most customizable consumer handset ever made, thanks to its changeable covers and highly customizable UI. With the ability to design your own covers on HTC's website and download new apps from the Android Marketplace whenever you like, there is certainly plenty of tweaking to be done. The Tattoo isn't perfect though, and in their efforts to create a more affordable Android handset HTC have had to take some shortcuts. Amazingly, WiFi, GPS, and HSDPA are all still on-board, despite the cost-cutting. Unfortunately, this leaves the screen as a victim of the price trimming process, as it is both smaller and lower resolution than we've seen on previous Android handsets. This makes it a bit tricky to type on, so beware of this drawback if you're a keen texter/emailer.The HTC Tattoo will also not win any awards for the quality of its camera, so if you're a photo snapper then this, again, may not be the phone for you. Otherwise, the HTC Tattoo is a fantastic phone. We're huge fans of HTC's Sense UI and find it to be both useful and fun, which is rare.So in conclusion, if you're after a well priced touchscreen handset that does everything you could possibly want in a reasonably sized form factor, then the HTC Tattoo is well worth a look. We at MoblieBurn.com give the HTC Tattoo a Highly Recommended rating without any reservations whatsoever.”
