Critic consensus
“If size is what you are after, the rest is as flagship-grade as it can get right now. The Kirin 980 chipset is one of the best, the triple-camera on the back might be the most-skilled setups to date, and the battery life is pretty awesome. There are also some nice touches like the true stereo speakers, the audio jack, and the stylus support if you need one.”
“The giant smartphone has excellent system and storage performance, while its cameras are first-class. Moreover, the OLED screen is impressive, as are the LTE and Wi-Fi speeds. The Mate 20 X lacks the standout features of the Mate 20 Pro such as its 3D face recognition, wireless charging and its 40 W fast charger, which is disappointing. The screen brightness is lower too, which is another drawback.”
“If you’re after an alternative to the Nintendo Switch, or want a dedicated gaming phone, then the Huawei Mate 20 X isn’t the best option. However, if you’re wanting a regular, generously sized phablet, it ticks most of the right boxes. The screen is a little on the warm side but it’s nicely sharp and HDR-ready. Plus, the Mate 20 X’s size makes it superb for Netflix binging on-the-go. Stellar battery life and performance round-off a decent package.”
“Huawei’s Mate 20 X is a gaming and media tablet masquerading as a massive smartphone, and it does a pretty good job of it.”
