Kyocera DuraForce User Manual

The phone was making a sound for every notification from gmail I hadn't uninstalled, even if though the notification for the APP was turned to "OFF" and the sound for the APP set at "OFF."   I found it!  The Kyocero Duroforce has a DEFAULT RINGTONE setting  that makes the noise it is set to for ALL notifications from every application on the phone, even if the notifications and sounds for the APP are set to "off" until the DEFAULT RINGTONE is set to NONE!   

Go to Settings > Apps > All > Gmail, check if there's an option to show notifications, if there is, disable it (or uncheck).

Try to plug it in to your charger and let it charge for at least 15 minutes before turning it on. Let us know how it goes.

Maybe you are just in silent mode? While in home screen, press volume up key and max the volume. Check if you can hear the message notification after that.

If after checking your messages and all are already read, go to Settings > Apps > All > Messages > Clear cache. Hope that helps!

Is it like while you are writing a message, it goes to sleep? If not, go to Settings > Display > Sleep > change it to the max value. Let us know if that's just it.

Press and hold power key 'til it shuts off. Or unfortunately wait for it to run out of battery.

There's no way for that to happen unless the app is having some problem. Try to install a different dialer app and observe if it shows the same.
