About the brand

About Kyocera

While Kyocera is a ‘top dog’ in some consumer manufacturing circles, perhaps most notably its copiers, it’s a much quieter player in the cell phone business. Though their offerings may not grab headlines for breakthrough technology, they are certainly a respectable line of well-made and reliable phones.

Kyocera was formed in 1959 and went on to become a very well regarded general consumer electronics manufacturer, but their cell phone business did not begin until early 2000 when they purchased the phone manufacturing unit of American company Qualcomm to form Kyocera Wireless.

With the exception of a handful of clamshell models and one swivel, all of Kyocera’s models are of a candy bar form factor and most are sold to CDMA carriers. Many of the models are entry level and a few offer a slightly more enhanced feature set.

Common questions

If your Kyocera phone won’t turn on or the screen stays black, try these steps: Charge the phone: Plug it into a working charger for at least 15-30 minutes. A fully drained battery may need time before showing signs of life. Force restart: Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds until the phone vibrates or restarts. Remove and reinsert components: While the phone is off, remove the SIM card, SD card, and battery (if removable). Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert everything and try turning it on. Check for hardware issues: Look for a charging indicator light. If the light appears but the phone won’t turn on, the issue may be hardware-related. If these steps don’t work, your phone may need professional repair. Contact Kyocera support or visit an authorized service center. Note that a factory reset will erase all data, so only attempt this as a last resort after backing up if possible.

Carl....thanks for your help.  I am technically challenged.   I am at a lost as to how to reset my alarm display.  Normally when the alarm sounds, I simply swipe the dismiss button.   One morning,  the setting menu dropped, I hit something and the dismiss option was lost.   Now, I have to go to the clock app, found the alarm, and turn off the alarm.  Very cumbersome.  HELP!!!

It's Android 5.1.1     The model is Kyocera C6745

Hi Deborah. No worries, that's why we're here! Here are some things I want you to try:

  • Set a new alarm (to test if the dismiss option will show up)
  • Install a new alarm app: try apps like Timely Alarm Clock (link)
  • Go to Settings > Apps > All > Clock > Clear data

Please let me know if any works for you.

Hi Brenda! Simply follow these steps:

1. Insert your fingernail into the slit at the bottom of the battery cover and lift the cover up
gently.
2. Remove the battery. You will see two slots just above the battery compartment. The
bottom slot is the SIM card slot; the upper slot is for the microSD card.
3. Hold the SIM card so that the metal contacts on the SIM card face down and the cut off
corner points to the upper-left corner of your phone.
4. Gently slide the SIM card into the SIM card slot until it stops.
5. Replace the battery and the battery cover.
You can find this instruction on the manual that you can download on Kyocera Hydro Vibe page here in The Informr.

If you want to see how it's done, check out this video on how to remove and insert SIM card on the Kyocera Hydro Vibe.

Try to put your phone in silent mode. If that doesn't work, check sound settings for any option for system sounds and turn it off if there's any. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do unless you want to use a custom startup screen.

Hi again Vicki. Check out this app I found on Google Play store: Boot Animations (link)

You need to root your phone first for that to work.

The phone was making a sound for every notification from gmail I hadn't uninstalled, even if though the notification for the APP was turned to "OFF" and the sound for the APP set at "OFF."   I found it!  The Kyocero Duroforce has a DEFAULT RINGTONE setting  that makes the noise it is set to for ALL notifications from every application on the phone, even if the notifications and sounds for the APP are set to "off" until the DEFAULT RINGTONE is set to NONE!

Hi Bethany. It depends on which keyboard app you are using. Usually while typing, on the top row of keyboard, you should see word predictions.

Hi there. It's usually using the navigation buttons or soft touch keys. Have you tried both?

You mean the phone is making random taps on the screen? Hmm. That's odd. Did you install anything before that started happening?
