Hi Dee. Can you try using the SD card with other phone? Just to confirm that it works. If it does, then it might be your SD card slot not working.

yes it does work on my old windows phone

No, it can't. Only selected Virgin Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon devices can be activated.

Back then, my music player of choice is Poweramp Music Player (link) but in the past couple of year, I started using Spotify (link). It's easier to use and I get to be updated on the latest songs. Keep in mind that Spotify requires a subscription so you can play songs offline.

Open Settings > General tab > Apps > Downloaded tab. Check the apps there if any have the option to move to SD card.

When you plug in your phone to your Macbook, check your phone for the USB notification, tap on it and choose "Media device (MTP)". Let me know if that works.
