Critic consensus
“While the Lucid 3 was simply another entry-level option in a sea of subsidized phones on Verizon, the quality and breadth of options on Boost elevate the Volt above its Verizon counterpart. $180 gets you a modern Android smartphone with bonuses like extra-long battery life and a built-in IR blaster for controlling home theater devices. Those two useful features, combined with the overall solid experience, make the Volt a great affordable option on Boost. If you prioritize screen clarity, the Warp 4G or even the two-year-old Samsung Galaxy S III are better options, though neither supports Sprint's new Spark LTE.”

In Depth
The LG Volt is a mid-range smartphone that offers connection to the LTE network and decent hardware to boot for its price. Design-wise critics describe it as fairly plain and utilitarian though they also note that its compact size makes it easy to use one-handed. The 4.7″ display is a far cry from a retina display, but it still manages a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Experts observed that the lowered resolution made it difficult to read small text and also led to pixelization. Despite this issue, they also mention that the screen features good viewing angles and bright colors.
The LG Volt features a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. During hands-on testing, reviewers were surprised with the overall smooth experience though they noticed a slight stutter when they had a lot of apps open. For the most part though, they found that apps and games worked well and much of the lag that plagued previous LG phones were significantly reduced. The Volt also comes with a large 3,000mAh battery that, according to Trusted Reviews, lasts around 2 days of light use. It also comes equipped with an 8MP rear-facing camera and a front-facing 1.3MP camera. While it didn’t wow critics, they found both cameras adequate enough for daily use.
Overall, most reviewers describe the Volt as a good smartphone for the price. Phone Scoop adds that it is a, “solid Android phone that packed in a tone of features and delivered a good value.”
