“Pursuing the Lumia 1520, Nokia has launched another good 6-inch phablet with the Lumia 1320. Just like its twice as expensive sister model, the Lumia 1320 convinces with an excellent build, an LTE wireless module, a very accurate GPS that even outperforms professional navigation systems like the Garmin Edge 500, and it comes with a very good screen. In contrast to the Lumia 1520, Nokia's phablet has to make concessions in some regards, above all in the SoC's much weaker performance (dual-core rather than quad-core). It is absolutely sufficient for current games and apps, although the performance reserves will be rather tight for future applications. Nokia also slimmed down the phablet's camera equipment. Instead of a 20-megapixel lens, it now only sports a 5-megapixel camera that, nevertheless, provides good quality pictures. The manufacturer also makes cutbacks in storage capacity and screen resolution, which has shrunk from Full HD to the 1280x720 pixels 720p format. Buyers looking for a 6-inch smartphone powered by Windows Phone 8 should definitely put Nokia's Lumia 1320 on their shortlist considering its many good properties.”

“Nokia is obviously hoping the Lumia 1320 will hit the ground running and that hope isn't unfounded, considering the loud bang the 1520 produced and the solid record of the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620. Providing all the necessities at a reasonable price is a Nokia staple in the Windows Phone midrange. It's been a winning formula for the Finns in smartphones, so no obvious reason why it won't work in phablets as well.Or, maybe there're some after all? The 1320 is very late to the phablet scene to begin with, which means Androids have had plenty of time to feel right at home. The devices in question aren't just powerful in hardware, but some have hot glass bodies and even tricks such as a swiveling camera.Windows Phone 8 is proven to behave on less than premium hardware, but it's not the platform of choice for most game makers out there. As a result, the Lumia 1320 squanders some of the potential of that large screen. The Nokia Lumia 1320 will certainly find its place under the phablet sun but it seems at this point a number of droids can offer more for less. What we shouldn't underestimate is the outstanding Lumia 1520, which may as well be able to pull its sibling along. Plus, the success of the Lumia 520 probably means there's a core of happy Windows Phone users who may be ready for something bigger, but not too pricy.”

“Taken as a whole, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a sturdy, nice-looking supersize smartphone that does a good job for the price. Its camera resolution is perhaps its weakest point, but this LTE smartphone takes snaps from its main camera well enough to use and enjoy. While I would recommend it for the Windows Phone fan looking for a more affordable ultralarge phone, I'd also urge buyers to check out the Samsung Galaxy Mega and ZTE Iconic/Boost Max, both Android smartphones.”

“As much as one may try to twist facts, there's no denying – the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a mid-range offering. On a positive note, the 6-inch phablet is sturdily-crafted and has a polished look. It presents well, as the internals are capable enough to provide an adequate user experience without nasty hang times or stutters. Lastly, both battery and call quality, while not top notch for certain, still leave little to desire. On the other hand, this is quite a burdensome device in terms of its weight, even in its category, and the camera sure could use a little push. Again, and as we pointed out already, design elements feel understated and modest, and not in a good So how does the 1320 compare to its competition? Pretty well, actually, thanks to its aggressive price tag of about $340. Availability is still scarce, unfortunately, and at this point we're unaware of plans to get the phablet stateside – just Europe and Asia. Put next to other phablets in its price class, like the Alcatel OneTouch Hero, the 1320 manages to hold its own, though it's a shade less impressive overall. But, if you're a WP8 convert and have taken a shine to Nokia products, there's basically nothing else out there for you if you're on a budget.”

In Depth

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is Nokia’s second foray into the ever-growing “phablet” market. It’s a mid-range, more budget-friendly sibling of the Lumia 1520, both of which offer a Windows 8 experience and 6 inch screens.

Despite its relatively large size reviewers were impressed by the overall streamlined look and feel of the phone. TechRadar notes that the curved form allows the phone to “sit nicely in the hand without being too cumbersome.” It’s also customizable. Users can remove their original cover and replace it with one of their choice.

The 6 inch display offers 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, not full HD. While the display might not be good enough for multimedia “junkies,” as Wired UK states, it does utilize Nokia’s ClearBlack display technology which, according to Trusted Reviews, helps enhance the colors of the display with “bright, vibrant, rich hues.”

Similar to its display, the 1320’s other specs are also not headline-grabbing. Instead, it offers a modest 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and only 8GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 64GB thanks to a microSD slot. These specs won’t top the benchmark test charts, however reviewers from TechRadar did not notice any significant lag or issues when starting up apps.

The rest of the phone falls comfortably in the middle of the road category. The 5 megapixel camera is lackluster when compared to the its sibling’s 20 megapixel camera, however Pocket Lint mentions that the camera does take decent pictures and comes with a variety of Nokia smart camera apps.

The battery in the phone is the same as the one found in the 1520 and should, according to Nokia, offer 21 hours of talk time.

Overall, most reviewers aren’t wowed by the Lumia 1320, but they do find it to be a fairly solid device despite its lackluster specs and camera. CNET argues that while the specs don’t live up to the other phablets, the Windows 8 OS doesn’t require high end specs and goes on to say that the 1320 is “a sweetheart of a deal.”
