“The Galaxy A36 is the most balanced Samsung midranger from the new series with an improved design, more powerful graphics, and faster charging over the Galaxy A35. It has been promised 6 major Android updates, which is a lot.”

“The Galaxy A36 is a high-quality smartphone within the affordable mid-range segment, featuring an IP67 certification and Gorilla Glass Victus+. The Galaxy A36 places a special focus on security. Samsung emphasizes various software measures to protect the user, as well as the hardware-supported Knox Vault security architecture. Buyers can also look forward to six years of security updates, including a quarterly patch supply.”

“The Samsung Galaxy A36 offers strong everyday performance, outstanding battery life, and years of software support, making it a good phone for price-conscious buyers.”

“See, it's natural for just about anyone to always lust after the most premium and spec'd-out flagships. It's just human nature to be awed by shiny things. However, the Galaxy A36 5G isn't a bad phone just because it's a value offering. It shapes up to be a decent proposition in the sub-$400 category. Yes, it will start at $399 when it hits the shelves on March 26, and that's a fairly attractive price tag for a Galaxy mid-ranger. Some issues that are immediately obvious when you take the phone is the slightly lackluster performance (it doesn't take long for the phone to lag a little) and it's camera, which only has the bare minimum, but for $400, you can't fault Samsung for cutting that many corners.”

In Depth

Design

The Galaxy A36 sticks to a tried-and-true design with its rounded rectangular shape. PCMag noted it looks generic due to Samsung’s repetitive styling over the years. The phone is practical and functional, with users commending its durability provided by the Gorilla Glass Victus+ and IP67 rating, which offers protection against water and dust.

As Notebookcheck highlighted, the phone is slim and lightweight, making it easy to carry. You’re trading off premium feel for practicality since the frame is plastic, but it doesn’t feel cheap thanks to the glass back.

Tom’s Guide appreciated the fun, shimmering colors available, saying they give the phone a bit of visual flair. Still, the fingerprint-prone back might bother some who prefer a pristine look.

Display(s)

The Galaxy A36 offers a big and vivid 6.7-inch AMOLED display. It ensures vibrant colors and crisp details for an enjoyable viewing experience. This comes in handy when watching videos or browsing photos, as they appear rich and true to life.

The display’s 120Hz refresh rate makes animations and scrolling smooth and enjoyable. It handles indoor lighting well with bright visuals. Yet, reviewers pointed out that visibility outdoors in direct sunlight could be better due to its highly reflective surface.

Despite these slight shortcomings in strong sunlight, the display remains reliable for most everyday activities. In a review, experts highlighted that the vibrant screen “is the phone’s crown jewel.”

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy A36 runs on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, adept at handling daily tasks like browsing, streaming, and app use with its responsive interface. Most users will find everyday use seamless, as the 120Hz refresh rate adds smoothness to animations and scrolling.

That said, demanding apps and intense gaming may reveal some performance limitations, as noted by Tom’s Guide: “The A36 application performance does suggest more could be desired when juggling heavier apps.” While not designed for hardcore gaming, it remains sufficient for casual play.

Software & Storage

Samsung’s One UI on Android 15 makes your mobile experience delightful. It bundles user-friendly features like split-screen and widgets.

The Galaxy A36 boasts six years of software support. This means you’ll enjoy continued updates and security patches until 2031, offering peace of mind and reliability.

Some experts comment on the bloat carried by Samsung’s own services within One UI, adding unremovable apps like Facebook and Pinterest. Yet, convenience features like eSIM support and useful AI enhancements balance this out.

Cameras

With its 50MP main camera, the phone snaps sharp images with punchy, vibrant colors ideal for social media. Yet experts mention the dynamic range isn’t the best, with details getting lost in difficult lighting.

Low-light performance is where it struggles, often leading to noisy and less sharp images. Despite its many features, the macro lens doesn’t add significant value and can be disappointing.

While video capture maxes out at 4K, stabilization fall short when compared to stronger models but remains decent for casual use.

Battery

The Galaxy A36 promises impressive endurance with its 5,000mAh battery, ensuring you stay connected through busy days. In tests, it comfortably lasts over a full day, even with heavy use. If you need more juice, light usage easily stretches the battery to nearly two days. As noted by Tom’s Guide, the Snapdragon chip “impacts battery life in a bigger way,” boosting efficiency.

Charging is swift, thanks to 45W fast charging, with a full charge taking just over an hour. Reviewers highlight how quickly you can top up—reaching 50% in roughly 30 minutes makes it easy to charge during short breaks. While it lacks wireless charging, the quick-wired options limit your downtime. The A36 balances power and convenience for most daily routines.

Audio

For calls, you’ll enjoy clear and understandable sound, even if background noise isn’t completely removed. One reviewer notes that the voice is “clear and easy to understand,” though loud noises might persist.

When it comes to entertainment, the stereo speakers perform well in terms of volume, but music can sound “thin,” as experts critique. You might miss deeper tones, making Bluetooth earbuds a good choice for a richer listening experience.

The overall audio experience is satisfactory but is more suited for personal use with headphones or earbuds, especially when diving into music or movies.

The Bottom Line

This device offers a bright, large display that’s easy to view even in daylight, and its build quality ensures durability. It’s a wise choice if you seek a dependable phone with a long battery life and a user-friendly experience. The lack of a microSD card slot for additional storage may be a drawback if you require more space. Reviewers noted the phone “left a positive overall impression,” making it a balanced choice for those who value good design and longevity.
