“Google didn’t disappoint with the execution of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung did an excellent job with the hardware of the Galaxy Nexus. It's probably only the second Nexus phone (after the Nexus One) that is really attractive to customers at large, rather than mostly to developers.A new major version of Android is not the only first to its name, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is also the first droid phone with a 720p screen. And what a screen it is - the 316ppi pixel density makes for an amazing image sharpness and completely hides the PenTile nature of the matrix.Top-notch connectivity is also a big plus and the browser is hands down the most capable mobile browser currently available.”

“Make no mistake, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is an industry-leading smartphone. It easily trumps most of its competition by combining a pleasant appearance, killer performance, and a brand new phone operating system in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With such a list of assets, it's very hard for the Galaxy Nexus to fail. And that's what's making it such a good offering for smartphone users – it's a very balanced product, with no truly weak points (if you're not a camera maniac) and at least several very strong ones.As we said, the Galaxy Nexus is one of the fastest phones we've seen. It just feels like it does everything with ease, without hesitating one bit. That's the kind of performance that we expect from a device of this caliber, and the Nexus manages to deliver it.”

“Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.”

“If, like many of us, you’ve been constantly holding out for that “next big thing” in the Android world, this is your signal to stop waiting and reach for your wallet. The Galaxy Nexus is the Android phone you want to own in 2012.Before we throw out an unqualified recommendation, however, there are a couple of things to consider. The first is battery life, and while 14 hours or so was enough for us, with our usage patterns, your own needs may differ. The second is that pesky 5MP rear camera, which is by no means bad, but if you’re upgrading from a phone with a great camera, like an Xperia Arc or HTC Sensation, the Nexus may represent a downgrade in terms of camera performance. Likewise, if you’re expecting a great camera, you might be disappointed by what you find.”

In Depth

The UMTS version of the Galaxy Nexus packs all the same features as its LTE sibling including Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” OS, NFC and a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera. It also has the beautiful, and large, HD-resolution OLED display and dual-core processor for which reviewers have shown their love.

In comparison to the LTE version, HSPA+ offers theoretically slower data speeds, but on the other hand can be considered a “world phone”, able to operate on all of the more widely available 3G HSPA+ networks.
