“There's a lot to like about the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini. The range of tweaks that Samsung has layered in is impressive, it looks good and it's a flexible phone with the option to expand the memory and swap the battery if you need to. The software experience visually has plenty of refinement, although there are some things, like the S Planner that don't suit our tastes. But within that we hit the problem. Although there's plenty of enhancement on offer, it's not the additional features like pop-out video that you notice, it's the sluggishness of general navigation.”
“Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini feels like a lazy effort from the South Korean manufacturer. Sure to cash in on the lucrative brand the company has created with the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Mini appears half hearted in its specs and performance, failing to ever truly hold its own without the backing of its big brother.”
“The Galaxy S3 mini is a reasonably good mid-ranged Android smartphone with good software and battery life. However, unless you particularly want a smaller smartphone, we can't see any major reason to pick the Galaxy S3 mini over the cheaper but higher spec Google Nexus 4 on a SIM-free basis.”
“The Galaxy Exhibit is a perfect match for someone who wants to take the Android experience for a spin, but doesn’t want to risk too much cash, or simply doesn’t want to pay too much for a smartphone. Of course, there are phones with similar performance to the Exhibit at similar price points, but if you’re looking for a decent low-cost Galaxy device, the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit is easy to recommend.”

In Depth
While keeping some of the feel and design elements of the full-size Samsung Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S3 Mini is offered as a less expensive alternative with a midrange feature set.
Powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and up to 64GB of memory via microSD, the S3 mini sports a 4-inch, Super AMOLED display (480 x 800), 5 megapixel camera, and a 1500mAh battery rated at up to 11 hours of talk time (battery ratings vary enormously due to personal use behavior).
Reviewers generally found the S3 Mini’s display acceptable, despite being less pixel-dense than some of its competitors, “the Mini’s resolution is still within range for its size and delivered the rich colors that AMOLED displays are known for,” according to CNET. And PC Advisor said, “although it might be manageable, we’re not bowled over by the screen quality.”
The 5 megapixel camera comes with LED flash, autofocus and a host of Samsung software for shooting and editing photos. “Pleasantly looking like the rest of the TouchWiz UI, the camera interface features all the settings that you’ll find in the manufacturer’s higher-tier devices, including various scene modes,” according to Phone Arena. The camera can also record video at up to 720p resolution.
Additional features of note include motion controls (Direct Call, Smart Alert), Smart Stay – which keeps the screen on as long as you’re looking at it, NFC, customized notification bar and a power saving mode.
