Critic consensus
“The Xperia 1 has one-of-a-kind 4K display, HDR OLED at that. The triple camera, the stereo speakers, latest Snapdragon chip, stylish design, and the IP68 ingress protection all add to an overall great package.”
“The Xperia 1 is an excellent smartphone in isolation. It scores highly on its design, display and performance, but it falls short when comparing it against other more feature-rich, and often cheaper, flagship smartphones released this year.”
“The Xperia 1 is directly aimed at fans of the iconic Sony brand and those bored with the current state of similar-looking smartphones. It does thing differently – for better or worse. There’s no doubt this is the best camera Sony has ever put on a phone and it’s the finest display I’ve seen on an Xperia phone, too. That being said, the Pixel 3 still has a better camera and the OnePlus 7 Pro a better display.”
“With hardware and software pulled directly from Sony’s more successful businesses, film-making and 4K TVs, the Xperia 1 looks to turn a new page in Sony’s book of mobile.”
