Critic consensus
“The RedMagic Astra is an ultra-powerful Android tablet with a responsive display and fast performance for playing even the most demanding mobile games with ease.”
“The RedMagic Astra costs €499, which makes it pretty much a no-brainer. You just cannot get a more powerful tablet at that price, with a compact yet premium OLED at that. The RedMagic Astra aced the screen and performance tests (especially the GPU stress test), it offers sophisticated gaming software, there is a built-in cooling fan, and it supports various first-party accessories such as a dedicated gaming pad. It can last over 8h when gaming on a single charge. And it supports charging bypass, too.”
“If you want to take your games to a larger display, but still want to remain portable, the RedMagic Astra is the tablet for you. It's a similar size to the iPad Mini, but this one's all about Android gaming performance.”
“The Redmagic Astra is a charming little device that still packs a big punch. The compact frame is comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions, which is what you’ll be doing a lot, as it’s hard to put down. It’s the best small Android tablet you can buy right now.”

In Depth
Design
The Astra’s design strikes a balance between sophistication and gaming flair. It features a flat design that feels premium and comfortable in hand. The aluminum frame provides a quality feel, while maintaining lightweight build, preventing hand fatigue during extended use.
The back offers a unique feature – a strip of glass across the top, highlighting subtle gamer branding. Unlike typical gaming tablets with aggressive designs, this one ‘whispers confidence,’ as reviewers appreciate its understated appeal.
The USB-C port, placed off-center, may affect controller balance, but it ensures stereo speaker alignment, improving audio experience.
Display(s)
The OLED screen on the Astra tablet offers vivid colors and inky blacks, truly enhancing your gaming experience. Its 9.06-inch size ensures you get a portable yet expansive view, perfect for gaming.
With a peak brightness of 1600 nits, you can enjoy clear visibility even in bright environments. It’s bright enough for both indoor and outdoor use, providing a vivid display in any setting.
Experts praise its high refresh rate of 165Hz, stating the smoothness “enhances the gameplay to an incredible level”. This ensures buttery smooth visuals, especially crucial for fast-paced gaming.
Performance
With the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the tablet excels in handling high-demand games like Genshin Impact and Delta Force with ease. Gaming feels smooth with its blazing fast refresh rates and responsive touch capabilities, perfect for both casual and competitive scenarios.
Reviewers have noted that “the REDMAGIC Astra provides flagship gaming performance in a surprisingly elegant package.” Its enhanced cooling system ensures the device stays cool, offering uninterrupted gaming without uncomfortable heat buildup.
For gamers seeking unrivaled performance in a portable format, this tablet delivers impressive speed and power without sacrificing mobility.
Software & Storage
The RedMagic Astra runs on a UI that closely mirrors stock Android, offering familiarity with minimal clutter. It adds a unique gaming twist through the Game Space interface, which optimizes performance and provides control over gaming settings.
“The Game Space is a one-stop shop for all your gaming needs,” explained reviewers, allowing you to manage performance, record screens, and quickly access games.
If gaming dominates your tablet usage, you’ll find the interface makes accessing and optimizing your games seamless.
Cameras
While the tablet includes a 13MP rear camera and a 9MP front camera, the image quality falls short under low-light conditions, and there are no advanced modes like macro or portrait. Reviewers note that “the results are very palatable, but nothing spectacular,” which means it’s perfect for casual photos or video calls but not for professional-grade photography.
The camera can handle standard tasks, like scanning documents, but expect compromised quality on zoomed shots.
Battery
The Astra excels in battery performance, catering to those who love long gaming sessions without constant charging interruptions. Experts highlight its endurance, with the battery providing around 12 hours of continuous use on a full charge. Such longevity allows you to engage in hours of gaming, watching videos, or browsing without reaching for the charger frequently.
Charging is another area where the Astra shines. Reviewers appreciate that the 8,200mAh battery fully charges in approximately 71 minutes with its fast-charging capability. This means you’ll spend less time waiting and more time doing what you enjoy. Ideal for avid gamers and busy individuals, the charging speed ensures your tablet is ready to go when you are.
The combination of long battery life and speedy recharging enhances the Astra’s appeal for those seeking a reliable, game-ready device that fits an active lifestyle. The thoughtful balance of battery longevity and charging efficiency sets this tablet apart in the competitive market.
Audio
The Astra’s audio features stereo speakers tuned with DTS:X Ultra, providing clear and spacious sound for watching movies or playing games. Reviewers note, “the speakers are great and get quite loud,” enhancing your entertainment experience.
One drawback is the placement of the speakers, as your hands may cover them while holding the tablet in landscape mode, causing a slight muffling effect. Despite this, the audio remains crisp and enjoyable, making it suitable for gaming and media use.
The Bottom Line
This device focuses on delivering high-end gaming performance without excess bulk. With its 9-inch design, it’s portable yet powerful, appealing to mobile gamers who want a robust experience. “The integrated cooling system and extended battery life ensure you can enjoy long sessions without interruption,” according to experts. While it misses some non-gaming features like wireless charging, its performance-focused features and design make it an attractive option for serious gamers.
